I have it, but have no idea about it.
Gave up after reading so many conflicting reports on the net.
So just carrying on exactly as before I found out I had it. |

I don't know that much to be honest. I do know that a friend of a friend was type 2 until she had a Gastric Band fitted. After she got down to the correct weight the Diabetes vanished |

it is a hard thing to get your head around. Its even harder to remember medication etc because you dont feel ill most of the time.
I really started to pay attention this year after being threatened with insulin and it paid off.
I am trying to lose weigt and getting a lot more active with a goal of reducing my medication over time |

Gave up most stuff, but sugar in my Tea is far more important than anything else.
Not over weight and BMI of 24.
Just cant be doing with any more pills,so gave up on the Metformin last Aug.
Side effects were worse than the Diabetes. |

Not tested since Aug. but feeling a lot more normal since stopping the Metformin.
Told the practice nurse last week about me not taking the pills, she wasnt best pleased, but she dont have to suffer the side effects.
I know the cause of my Type 2 and not a lot I can do about it. |

I guessed my hubbie had diabetes about 15 years ago, he had terrible mood swings and could not get enough juice to drink, headaches and was extremely tired all the time. persuaded him to go to docs and his blood sugar was 22. he was started off on diet control, then onto metformin and eventually insulin. he has recently been put onto victosa, as well as his other insulins, and also is under the bariatric team at the hospital. he has lost a stone in 2 months, and has managed to reduce the units of insulin he is taking. PLEASE don't ignore the condition, as you may lose lower limbs and eyesight, and a host of other stuff |

i went for years with an 'ok' result everytime but one time i went it shot to 9.6, now i'm fully compliant with meds, chaned my diet which stopped the side effects and am back within 'ok' range'
i think the biggest help for me has been the exercise |

I thought hyper/hypoglycaemic fits were only a part of type 1. |

(not about you hubby but the not ignoring it)
my dads uncle lost his leg to diabetes, my friends husband lost both legs and sadly she lost her life to a diabetic coma after turning to drink when he died. |

type 2's dont usually have hypos unless they are on insulin but they can have hypers.
Hypos need to treated with fast acting glucose and monitored for further hypos once that wears off.
Hypers are different to treat as really without insulin the only treatment is burning it off |

The threat of insulin jabs worked for me,
I only get above 8 when I'm ill now
The metformin made me put on more weight than pregnancy did but having just suffered retinopathy this week
I know as much as I need to for me, I'm also very lucky that my GP and nurse both specialised in diabetes.
I just wish more medics knew the first thing about it |

Probably isn't news to most people, but poorly controlled diabetes is a strong risk factor for heart and kidney disease, as well as neurological problems and retinal disease, to name a few.
Those miserable posibilities are worth the toil to keep things under control in my view. |

They don't as often, but certainly some classes of tablets do pose the risk of hypos |

What are the side effects?
I have a friend that is on metformin. She gets low sugar biscuits for breakfast, and cakes for during the day.
I didn't know about the mood swings either. Useful info. |

Metformin can cause gastrointestinal issues in some. Changing to the slow release version can help but as I have said above I found the greatest help was reducing my carb intake and increasing my 'Real food' intake. Cooking from scratch etc |

My other half has type 1...
He's had it since being 4 yrs old we've been together nearly 9 yrs and I'm just about getting to grips with it now... I do wake if he goes hypo in the night which is very odd, his breathing changes, and I've sat and fed him sweets, anything that's sweet in the house... It can be quite scary, if he's particularly hyo, he hasn't a clue what's going on.. He uses novo mix daily and glargyn long acting insulin before bed.
Luckily the hypos don't happen too often |

That's really helpful, thanks. I didn't know that and didn't think to look it up. I'll pass the info on. |
