I have spoken with him numerous times, everyone already knew lol he never kept it private to friends and family. He has done this video the way he has because he didn't want 'fans' thinking he was lying to them all along! |

I think he is very brave (although in reality there should be no need to be).
There has been a lot of speculation about him, especially since he was of an age where these things are difficult to understand about yourself.
I say good for him. If he is happy, and it happens to be with a man, then he's on to a winner.
On another note, I've watched the video he released. At no point in that video does he say he is gay. He doesn't use the word, or say that he is bi. He has just found someone, and it happens to be a man. Big deal! |

This is every bit as surprising as George Michael coming out though!
The only surprise left, given that every five piece boyband seems contractually obliged to reveal a gay member (ooo, missus!) at some point, is that One direction still have their collective hetrosexually intact...so far!

Having a gay son, I knew he was flipping gay along time ago. As for saying that he is still interested in women I call that throwing you of the sent, my son dated women only to prove to himself what sexuality he was and women were not the answer  |

There is alignedfelt letter doing the rounds onfFacebook from a Dad who supposedly heard his son talking in the phone about coming out to them. He wrote the letter saying how he knew from when his son was 6 but has loved him all his life etc got a bit Smokey in the room when I read it  |

It sounds like he has taken a very mature approach to presenting the information publicly.
Mark Foster is also gay and it is really heartening to see young men and women in the spotlight feel confident enough to be public about their sexuality and not let it be a tabloid feeding frenzy.

Why's it such a big deal in the media and why all the fuss and obsession with his sexuality on this thread?
He seems a decent fella who says he's in a relationship with someone that makes him happy and secure, and that happens to be a man...
At no point has he said he's gay, bi or whatever. That seems to be other people's reaction to his announcement.

My son took both me and his dad out for a meal to tell us, but we already knew from a very early age also. You can't tell people what sexuality to be it dosn't work like that. He has a lovely partner and also has this gift of knowing how to dress, so he will often say to me things like "Lets change that necklace or jumper" It's like having my own personal dresser. He also knows that i am a swinger, and all he said was that if i am happy then he is happy  |

I believe he is more bi than gay, based on the newspaper article I just read.
Whatever he may be, he is still hot in my book, and good on him for handling the situation so well.
I have always liked him as a person since he was 14, and he appears to have grown into a decent young adult with a sensible head on his shoulders.

As a couple of people have said he didn't use a label he just said he was dating a guy and that he still fancied girls. He certainly never pigeon holed himself as gay and therefore neither should we. |

For him it would be financial suicide to say he didn't fancy girls, they keep him in money . buying magazines, merchandise and Personal appearances. he would be daft not to. |

Don't think anyone really cares who is or isn't thesedays, I'm more interested in having friends that are good people.

I agree there's no issue with people chatting about it, people can also freely chat about a kardasian's new shoes, baby name, or how Z list celeb is getting fat.... Personally to me they are equally boring as much as some will pay hand over fist for the magazines that gives all the goss.
The subtle difference with Tom's news is a celeb announcing he is straight won't have so many chins wagging, but anyways I'm contributing more than most to his story on here so I'll leave it at that |

That was what I liked about the inter_iew - it was about him falling in love and not about defining that to a sexuality. It was about how you tell other people that you have fallen for someone. It was about how you tell that person that you like them and would like to have more than a conversation with them. He could have been giving the same inter_iew about a young woman and it would have been the same (and would have the other young women still wishing it was them as much as they do now that they know it's a man he loves).

That was what I liked about the inter_iew - it was about him falling in love and not about defining that to a sexuality. It was about how you tell other people that you have fallen for someone. It was about how you tell that person that you like them and would like to have more than a conversation with them. He could have been giving the same inter_iew about a young woman and it would have been the same (and would have the other young women still wishing it was them as much as they do now that they know it's a man he loves).

I see what you mean and maybe I wrote it wrongly, more felt that JR was skirting around the (alleged) issue as it's been all over the papers (not necessarily in my opinion, it should be no big deal).
