Well, just watched the first half of corrie and Hayley and Roy were outside funeral directors, talking about her arrangements she wants to make. Apologies for the sad topic. I was welling up already and sat here now sniffing and looking pathetic probably. Anyone else feel the same? I know, only tv show but this stuff happens in real life, just not everybody is "lucky" enough, if that is the right word, to plan their own send off.

i admit i cried too.. the first question she asked about burial or cremation just sent shivers up my spine.

Being alive and knowing what the processes involve but then remembering this will be 'me' in that situation. Buried in a hole or set fire too..

Id find it very hard to make those choices, selfishly id rather pass the buck of responsibility of what happens to me after im gone. Think id spend the rest of my days worrying about being stuck in the ground or being burnt

that's what got me the burial/cremation decision. I don't want to be in the ground or cremated either. have been to both types of funeral, am in bits all the time. Ive also been to a woodland funeral, wicker casket, that was a good experience, less stressful, strangely but still sad

i can't even think about the Hayley/Roy storyline. Yes it's fiction, but it hits a nerve. Ever since her character was introduced it's been handled sensitively and in a dignified way. I love the relationship between the two of them. When she goes i'll be in pieces!

Off topic but i met her once and a thoroughly lovely lady in real life.

Ruby (obviously - Master hates Corrie!) x

I know it morbid but I have made a list of details for my funeral, and my life insurance will cover the costs and leave some for the kids to have a Holliday or whatever , it's going to be one hell of a party shame I won't be there, but I feel better that I won't be leaving a load of arrangements to be made all everyone has to do is turn up I've even left provision for my guests to get pissed its the last round ill ever buy, I'm not bothered about my funeral, it's just my body that will be dead, I will live on through my kids and their kids and their kids kids, but I'm determined to put the fun into funeral lol

What I want for my send off is all written down. Having been diagnosed with breast cancer at 22 and not given great odds of survival, I thought it important, I knew those arranging it would want to give me what I wished for. Have altered some things after being diagnosed with the same thing again recently (much better prognosis this time), but it's still there just in case. I only find it sad I've had to write my list so young, I always would've written down my wishes, just thought I'd be much older.

I'm undecided bout planning own funeral. I'm glad corrie covered it but can see both sides of it being horrible planning ur own but also is good as family don't need to wonder if was right for u. My aunt was terminally ill and gave certain instructions of this she wanted, hymns etc so was her choices. I like how corrie shows Hayley chose expensive things then changed to more basic options,Though cardboard DIY coffin Is bit extreme. But meant money left was for family rather than a funeral

My mother wanted to go in a few orange boxes or black bin bags, undertaker suggested a basket ware coffin, as oranges use to come in baskets,

I mad a garland of hyacinths and daffodils, with ivy to go around the side, 14 ft. long,

she had a fear of being paralised and not being able to get out of a coffin ( old horror movies I think )

also had a singer, as I knew we would be too upset to sing. we asked for the coffin to stay on _iew until we had all left, her blind friends, touched her basket coffin, to say goodbye,

I knew exactly what she wanted, as she had written everything down. Only had the hearse, we all used our own cars,

That's a nice cheery storyline. And presumably she'll die at Christmas? Beyond me why people watch soaps when all they do is peddle misery and sadness as entertainment.

Unfortunately cancer happens at Christmas too...I think it a great storyline to do, and is being handled well! I find it comforting to know I'm not the only one going through something like that. Those kind of storylines help lots of people and even save lives by raising awareness. Corrie's always been pretty good at breaking it up with humor too, so I think it's great! Sad, yes, but great!

They are events that do happen in real life though. And to the people who are going through similar events it can help and makes a person think that its ok to speak out and ask for help.

Its a choice to watch it, and although its not cheerful, i still find it compelling _iewing and makes me think about issues that happen that id perhaps not think about (like planning my own funeral)

ive just found out there are some extra episodes next week and one is a hour long. info for those who want to avoid it. people die at or near xmas in the real world. I must be turning into a right wuss, as what with Hayley making me cry and sam bailey bringing tears to my eyes singing Clown, now the John Lewis ad has just made me teary again. Think it is that time of year when I, like so many others, are remembering people they have lost. And here they come again

For me, it brings it home that many people are suffering right now in the shadows. If I spare one thought for them through Hayley's outstanding portrayal in the spotlight, she has done her job.

And I am and she has.

Are they?

I watch these with my teenage daughter. They promote discussions on many issues. For eg. Death, drugs, homosexuality. None of those things are in her life....
