As a night worker my sleep patterns are all over the place, much to Siren's continual annoyance. It drives her mad that I can come to bed at 5am, wake her up as I get into bed and reach over for a fon.. er.. cuddle.. and then I fall asleep within minutes leaving her fully awake and unable to get back off. It drives her mental. |

Wishy thats why when it gets to 3am I dont bother going to bed cos I know I will wake hubby, so instead I annoy all the other night owls
Altho saying that I think I have passed my sleep patterns on to my youngest she now cant sleep past 5:30am!!

If she's got work the next day I usually go in the spare room so I don't disturb her, but as we have an 11m/o son one of us is usually up at some point in the night anyway, both of us if he's puked all over his bedding like he did tonight. |

ohh I remember them days well my oldest slept thru the night at 6 weeks (no really Im not bragging she did) but the youngest up all night every night til she was 3 years old
Neither were sickly babies but the odd night when they were ill OMG makes me ill thinking about it now and they are both school age
When I was really unwell I slept on the recliner chair cos that way Steven could get sleep so one of us was awake enough to deal with the kids
Now I cant sleep at night so I lurk in here for some poor unsuspecting person who will chat to me

Poor you Greykitten.
Hubby plugs himself into music so he cant hear me wandering around, or the cat chasing her tail around the house
He swears it means he cant hear things like the kettle or the TV, but can still hear the alarm or the youngest mucking when she is supposed to be asleep

You dont need 12 hr stints...may feel like you do... but google sleep hygiene and the first 5 entries are worth reading and trying. Try to establish a regular sleep pattern that suits you...dont rely on pharmacy sleep aids that you can buy...if your going to use them then use them as part of a 10day to 14day plan to re establish your sleep pattern.Hope this helps but it is a very common problem...especially when we all have so much stress and anxiety about our daily lives. |

"Buy some Lavender Sleep Stones and place in a bowl on your bedside cabinet"
I tried a lavender pillow thingy - and it just gave me headache.
Its not just the fact i have trouble getting to sleep - its also the fact i wake up every hour or so, and then by 5am i am wide awake!!!
Then by the time its time to get up for work, i am really tired and want to go to sleep!!! xxx |

I am the opposite. I struggle to wake up once I am asleep. My record is 23.5 hours and I was woken up by builders banging or I would have slept longer. |

"My record is 23.5 hours and I was woken up by builders banging or I would have slept longer. "
I used to hate Steven (the hubby) for his ability to sleep for Scotland and my eldest daughter is the same.
Hubby used to get in from work after his last shift go to bed at midnight and sleep til late afternoon I could never understand how he managed it, oldest kid is the same on Saturdays I have to go in and wake her half a dozen times if we are supposed to be going out anywhere or she will sleep her life away
I left them both sleeping one day (youngest and I went shopping and for lunch) got back about midafternoon and both were still sleeping Im sure if I hadnt woken them they would have slept all weekend.
I tried explaining to the 11 year old that she really doesnt need 18 hours of sleep per day but she wont listen so now I have a great alarm system . . . . . I send the cat and youngest daughter in I promise less than 5 minutes later everyone in the house is awake dont know what the youngest does but it works
