With money being tight, could bartering be the way forward.
Many new and established sites already offering services and goods for exchange.
What skill could you offer, and what do you need in return? |

I can bake and preserve and make sweets.
I need a painter and decorator.
I also cater a fantastic children's party with those sarnies with both white and brown bread, cheesy stars, sausage rolls, mini pizzas, iced biccies, choc chip cookies, mini cupcakes and an individually created birthday cake.
(can also do same for an adults birthday if you like) |

Wanna paint my hall? I'll make a rabbit jelly (flavour of your choice) on grass made of chopped lime jelly.
And cake. And biccies - iced with your name and everything! |

I could offer all sorts of computer services. I can't code but I can do virtually anything else.
I could tutor several academic subjects to at least A-level and some beyond that.
I can proof-read to a high standard.
I need a regular, skilled person to provide deep tissue massage. I also need someone to pamper and massage my feet on a regular basis.
I could do with a personal trainer to assist with motivating me to exercise regularly. I'd also like to improve my swimming technique.
I'd also be interested in learning practical skills I don't have, or developing those I do. |

funnily enough, i was discussing this with my parents the weekend.
i discovered that my grandad used to keep 10 chickens through the year, fatten them up and then use them for xmas
2 to one fella in exchange for a joint of beef
2 to another for pork
keep 2 for themselves
and the rest was bartered for various veg and other stuff.
i think society really misses this kind of practice as it kept communities together for people relied on everyone else for a good xmas. |

For a while there was a small community in Cornwall that used to use the currency of 'Acorns', and it centered around the village pub.
For eg, If the Landlord wanted meat, he would use acorns. The butcher would say that Beef is worth 30 Acorns, the Landlord would say 1 pint is worth 2 Acorns, and so on.
The tax man wasnt happy but other than that it worked really well.
Id pay by cooking for you, or make you a house sign or something |

"maybe we could start the Fab, bartering register, people offer, skills and things, and ask for help or items in return."
Already been doing that by offering my unique body skills and in return asked for maybe the occasional bj,hand job and items used on me. |
