Regardless of "what he had to put up with" you DON'T put your hands round a woman's throat, or anyone's for that matter, unless your life depends on it, his clearly didn't.
Let's consider what she may have had to put up with too, we already know he physically assaulted her, maybe that is just the tip of the iceberg...

What if it was the other way round though, her putting her hands around his throat, people would of probably said she was just fooling around, like married couples do. |

really really dislike public mudslinging when divorces happen.
its NOT in the public interest, so why is it being reported?
i for one dont care at all and neither should anyone else.
it really should be private, but no, they each have to make themselves look like the victim.
makes me sick |

this didn't come out because of the Divorce case.... This came out because of a fraud trial where two of Nigella's Personal assistants are accused of stealing money over a 10 year period.....
it is part of their character defence..... |

Domestic violence, regardless of the victims gender is appalling and no one should have to suffer it. |

well they pleaded not guilty....
so many people put 2 and 2 together in this thread and got 5......
if you read the case the pa's are accused of defrauding BOTH of the couple, and there defence is that she gave them permission, and the drug use (cocaine, other class b drugs and medically prescribed medicines....) mean she is not a fit witness |

So she's taken a few drugs, doesn't mean she's got a drug problem and it's all only speculation at the moment, it wouldn't change my opinion of how sexy she is. Also anybody with a serious drug habit wouldn't look that voluptuous, I can tell you, it's just tabloid bullshit |

again... they deny all the charges and say they were given permission.....
this was going to come out during the trial anyway... and apparently there is a programme being shown in australia and the US that will make further allegations against nigella later this week.... so the judge was probably right to allow this to be out there before the trial starts..... |

lots of words that mean nothing...
again...
a) it was going to come out in the trial anyway.....
b) its not the tabloids... it was THE JUDGE in this trial that allowed it to be reported...
now... if you want to argue they are sensationalising it, then that is a different conversation...
they would never have been allowed to report it and would have been held in comtempt of court if, again "the judge" had not allowed it... |

Don't know the details of the fraud case, or the divorce case, only heard through the press of an act violent behaviour, have no real knowledge of it's true or one of many that happened to get witnessed, but she has a seductive smile and he doesn't. So now she is single my chances have increased from 0 to 0.000,000,000,000,1%
Will even clean the coffee table if she fancies doing a line.
After all it's her life not our's or the media's. |

in fairness my dear Watson she has lost a lot of weight recently though I've not seen her in the past few months....now Im not saying that is down to drug use it could be many factors such as stress, dieting and excersise... |

Plus the fact there's no ongoing mileage on the musician's trial, at least until sentencing.
The Nigella trial will continue to sell papers for days and days. People take great delight in the misfortune of others. |

Because they worked for satchi and Nigella. Perhaps a computer was left on and they went snooping when they were 'allegedly' committing fraud? Perhaps Satchi left it lying about after printing it in the hope they would notice it? Any number of reasons could be the cause of how they got hold of it. |

convienient timing that this has come out though? And that that type of conversation was used in an email? Im not convinced, I think he's probably sat at home pretty pleaaed with himself that it's his email that has smeared her character.
All the while Nigella has kept a dignified silence. He couldnt even accept he was in the wrong when he put his hand round her throat in public! What an arrogant man he is thinking he could do that let alone in public and not be called up on it. I think he had everything to do with that email coming out but time will tell the truth always outs. |

Hey, don't get me wrong! I totally agree with you. Satchi is a prick who is using this as a smear campaign. All i said was that it's the two women who are bringing it up in court. So what if she DID take cocaine! Is that any reason to publicly throttle the woman? Or any excuse for these women to 'allegedly' commit fraud against her? No. As you say, it's a smear campaign against her character. |

"On the front pages of all the newspapers, nigela has a drug problem it seems. Not such the innocent victim after all, well theirs a surprise.
Whatever happened to "Innocent until proven guilty"? These drug allegations haven't been proven in any way whatsoever! And they weren't made by Satchi. They were made by two women who were working for the couple and are now up in court accused of fraud!
They were made by satchi, its his email to nigella slating her drug use as the reason the two women are going to get away with stealing the money which is being used as evidence by the defense.
My point was, it's the two women who are bringing this up in court! Not Satchi! As part of their defence!
Well how did they get hold of that email? Id be interested to know how that came about.
No. As you say, it's a smear campaign against her character."

Mmmmmmmmmm?
I think it's interesting how many people are so willing to take sides, despite the evidence that contradicts their opinions, particularly with regard to Nigella. We still don't know many aspects of the case in terms of timeline and "cause and effect".
Saatchi may not be the most handsome man on the planet, but that doesn't automatically make him the baddie. Nor do the photographs of his "assault" on Nigella condemn or vindicate his behaviour. What's missing is context, and with some aspects of what we've been told context is missing.
Equally just because Nigella is "attractive" doesn't make her an angel and I'm surprised at how eagerly people have lept to her defence. Her part in the whole drama should be taken into account, and she should be treated just like everyone else regardless at how "gorgeous" she is.
There may be many more unpleasant titbits to be exposed, some involving Nigella, but it's interesting how it is not Saatchi bringing this all to air, and I do not believe in heroes and villains in such sad events, but maybe we might have to accept that all is not what we thought it to be.
Just a thought. |

Nope you are wrong, never given any thought to either of them being good bad criminal or legit.
They both enjoy a good life that they have worked hard for and deserve. both of them will continue to enjoy a great life after the divorce.
The details concern them, maybe they concern a few others, but they don't concern me.
If there is criminal behaviour then the police will handle it accordingly, they will do it with proper evidence gathering not speculating on here-say and headlines.

I think people are more jumping to the defense of Nigella in response to the op's first post where she states "not quite the innocent victim she claims to be"
First of Nigella has stayed silent so has claimed nothing and second of all, regardless as to whether she is a drug user or not that does not excuse a man (or woman for that matter) laying their hands on someone, let alone in public and be photographed. The pictures are there for all to see that it happened and how visibly shaken she was in the pics after, and witnesses saying they were having a heated argument therefore this was not some kinky foreplay etc. It happened and regardless of what went on in their marriage that act is inexcusable, anything else is just speculation at the moment and none of us will really know what goes on behind closed doors but there is never an excuse for DV even if she is a drug user. |

She suffered depression she had this for years . She was 41 years old and she had already lost her mother and younger sister to cancer at 48 and 32 , and now her husband at 47. If Nigella did turn to painkillers or drugs at this point, all one can say is that she had an awful lot of pain to kill ....... I think she may have been covering up a lot of pain in her life. I know how it feel to lose a person so close and it's hard even after a year some days for me to cope but I have never thank god hit drugs just had family and friends there. I for one will not be put off liking her, As there always loads of sides to the stories you read and its her life. They said in the paper her husband was mad saying look at what you're doing to your body with the drugs and her face in them pics we see him mad at her was not only around her neck he was feeling around her nose on some too. We will see I just hope she holds it together and some good come out of all this and she find a peace of mind. |

I know people are all different, but why would i feel sorry for someone who if she didnt have so much money she wouldnt be able to afford drugs anyway and she should know better at her age.
I feel more sorry for homeless people who have drink problems and a lot of people dont give a damn about them. |

Its like a very BIG black hole each day you cope with it and a lot on the outside never see just how bad you maybe feeling not sure OP if you ever had this bad as if you had you would know ..... some find it hard to just get up face the day why a lot end up doing silly things to themselves as cant cope. |

"On the front pages of all the newspapers, nigela has a drug problem it seems. Not such the innocent victim after all, well theirs a surprise. "
you are aware these are allegations being made by two sisters who worked for her ex husband who are currently in court charged with theft by deception and fraud. they claim that nigella said they could spend monies in Louis vuiton etc as long as they didn't tell ex husband she had a drug addict.
and the sun rag makes it front page news.
she lost her ex husband (john diamond) to cancer raised two kids and ended getting assaulted by that Saatchi prick and now this comes out from the court room. |

my point is that what you have insinuated is not proven fact and you base this on the evidence of two women charged with fraud and theft by deception, perhaps they might be saying this hoping to avert the gaze away from them.
i just wonder if the sun will publish the headline on the front page if the story is untrue my bets is they don't. |

One is an ex-advertising executive whose propaganda is widely considered instrumental in bringing the tories into power at the end of the seventies, giving us the hideous age of Thatcherism, the other is the daughter of a Chancellor in Thatcher's cabinet, who now appears on television employing tired double-entendres and saucy facial expressions whilst making indulgent tidbits for fake friends in a fake kitchen.
(Bitter, moi?)
I'm very happy for their lives to implode away from my gaze. |

"One is an ex-advertising executive whose propaganda is widely considered instrumental in bringing the tories into power at the end of the seventies, giving us the hideous age of Thatcherism, the other is the daughter of a Chancellor in Thatcher's cabinet, who now appears on television employing tired double-entendres and saucy facial expressions whilst making indulgent tidbits for fake friends in a fake kitchen.
(Bitter, moi?)
I'm very happy for their lives to implode away from my gaze. "

Im not for one minute condoning his actions...but have you lived with someone with a drug addiction...they drive you scatty and insane and push you to your absolute limits, I could have quite easily been driven to commit murder with an ex of mine and his stupidity and lack of awareness of his actions |

This is the most sensible post on this thread.
Been there, done that. It was a nightmare.
On the other hand I've heard that Nigella is really missing him. She was heard sobbing "Where's my fucking Charlie?" |

Today is a Big day in court ... Even sky news is going to cover this story on and off all day and say now it going . I myself think she is big into drugs .. But it was a way to escape her depression and when you're not in control of life things can go very wrong and this is what you're seeing . There staff spending money covering up for her and finding it easy so maybe helping themselves and they have loads of money .. he has to find something to stick in court and come out smelling of roses and its this. |

When you make your living in the public eye, you will always be scrutinised,
She is good at what she does, that means lots of people will be jealous, yes she has a privileged back ground and when you have money, you have temptation.
Nothing new under the sun, except now the internet. |

"Drug habit or not she doesn't deserve to be physically abused in public, no one does."
I agree. Just coz she likes to skin up occasionally (yes I realise it's probably something more classy in her case) doesn't mean the gutter press should hound her or her bloke should hit her.
I know little of her but, typical for a man I suppose, enjoy the pictures of her mouth with some piece of food entering it. Not very closely concealed that it's representative of her giving a BJ |

none of us know that she is an addict as some suggest, if she is she and her family need support which they can fund privately..
even if she is it seems that that makes it acceptable for a bloke to have his hand on her throat..
its not and we all should condemn it regardless of whomever..
DV is wrong, whatever the relationship.. |

using your own conclusion 'what's the fuss' if some bloke put his hand on your childs throat..?
lost our tempers with each other yes, never raised a hand though..
not in 30 yrs..
the neck is a very sensitive area, you grab someone there you can do serious damage..
don't buy the line that this was anything other than him losing control..
still stand by my opinion that it probably wasn't the first time, but that's just an opinion..
whatever it was it was wrong and the picture, whomever took it tells a thousand words..

Cocaine users can be unpredictably violent and have been known to bite at the faces of people when out of control. The only way to prevent being bitten without backing off is to place one hand at their neck - that way they can't jump forwards or bite downwards. I'm not saying that this is the case here, but the possibility exists. In the pictures I've seen he only uses one hand and his fingers don't appear to be digging into flesh. DV is not acceptable but self-defence is. That's one of the many reasons why cocaine is a dangerous and illegal drug. Again, not saying that's the case here, but suggesting a possible scenario. |

And it just wasn't a second snapshot in time the paps caught the whole argument leading up to the hands round the throat and afterwards too not to mention witnesses, all freely available via google, this was not kinky play it was a row and DV, regardless as to whether she has a drug problem it does not excuse that. |

care to point me to where that technique to restrain someone is used or taught..?
even in acute psychiatric where some service users are what used to be termed 'criminally insane' that is not accepted practise under control and restraint.. |

sorry have i read this correctly because you post seems to insinuate that she was high on cocaine and he was acting in self defence.
just to get this into perspective the drug abuse claims come from two sources one of which forms part of the defence of two sisters (PA's) who are standing trial from theft and fraud by deception and the second source comes from a personal blog written by another ex employee who was sacked who runs his own PR firm and who in the past as worked with or for her ex.
for everyone likes or dislikes her as far as the law is concerned it matters not one jot who you are.
in this country you are innocent until proven guilty and trial by media or by electronic means is frankly distasteful.
