Warm House Discount Scheme - British Gas

Just a message to say that if your with British Gas you can register for a Warm House Discount (which is a one off payment of £135) if your household income is less than £16,190 and you have a child aged 5 and under or if you are aged 62 and over.. cost nout to apply but hopefully might of use to some of you  |

This is my area of expertise haha, yeah I have one. Most suppliers run the scheme and there's various tiers of eligibility. There's a qualifying date of July hmm 15th or thereabouts and most applications are made around September. Dwp website has more information and your own supplier sets out their own guidelines too. Turn2us website had loads more ways to find out what you're entitled to. Sadly I've checked, I get heehaw : (

Joking aside we have our heating on for three hours a day and our has consumption has trebled, we will be having it on for an hour a day now in the mornings and heating only the room we're in during the evenings. Our income isn't vast but God knows how people on very limited incomes will keep warm this winter. |

well i only found out about it because a friend let me know
even better if other suppliers offer something similar too. im tight with money and if its £135 less out of my pocket its only a winner in my book |

V was paying the best part of 50 a week, so she asked to go on the meter, and now pays around 20 a week.
i dont understand why people pay tarriff style bills anymore.
personally i beleive they rob you that way.
had my projected bill for the next 12 months of just a little under £400. however, most weeks i only put £5 in my electric, maybe £10 every once in a while just to top it up a little, and have never come up short. |

Just copied n pasted from British Gas website
Customer household has an annual income of less than £16,190[2] and spends 10% or more of their household annual income on fuel for adequate heating (usually 21 degrees for the main living room, and 18 degrees for other occupied rooms).
You dont need kids to apply, guess there are just sections of eligibility. Can also claim if a person gets Income Support too

I remember when the only heating was a coal fire and you had to be careful that you didn't rip the arms from the extra "blankets" that your had on your bed in the winter.
We are so pampered now that we need central heating and bills of hundreds a year

After paying off a debt I had with my supplier they wanted to leave the DD at over a hundred quid per month so I stopped it as I was £150 in credit, paid £50 last month and this month I am still £90 so shan't pay this any this month and maybe not next month either  I get it they want to cover themselves over the winter months when consumption goes up but they really were taking the piss |

Thank you, I will be looking this up when I get home.
I wonder if any of you know about insulation grants? I don't have a loft as such, I have an original (not converted) attic room. It's my bedroom. Either side of the room section is the eave space which could be insulated. I rang one company about it and spent so long trying to explain it then measured up and the eave space floor area is just under half of the total floor space for that floor so to me it seems worthwhile insulating it.
Would be interested to know if anyone in a similar situation has had theirs insulated on a grant or if you know someone who has, so I can try that company. |

Paddy keeps mentioning the Energy Saving Trust - do look there.
It wasn't that long ago that I had just a two bar gas heater in the living room and that was it. I still keep bills low by wrapping up and then enjoying the luxury, for it is a luxury, of having the heating on for three hours in the evening.

theres free cavity wall insulation,free loft insulation(mostly these are based on the buildings eligibility),free gas boilers(with certain benefits,or combinations of circumstances)
the fundings all there
as for those not eligible,a green deal assessment can give energy efficient discounts up to around £1200 |

I'll ignore the laughter And need to say thankyou to you too as looking on Energy Saving Trust site there is something about Energy Company Obligation which seems to offer something to do with insulating solid wall houses, as I'm not eligible for cavity wall insulation (I've got no erm cavities) so I'll be looking into that more tomorrow too |

might be internal wall insulation or cladding possibly
if u cant qualify, u can claim money back xxxx
sorry about the laughter earlier hehehehehe.
the energy obligation is about reducing our need to use so much fossil fuels/gas, its designed to help out with the decline and to combat the environmental impact.
As bills are going up and up and UP...over the next 20years...why not get something that will reduce reliance on burning fuels |

All energy suppliers will offer some sort of discount, just need to ask.....
There are some newer companies coming for a slice of the market so could become more competitive soon.
My only advice is for those with a (Pay as you go meter) to get rid if they can as your being charged a much higher tariff per unit....., those not on a smart meter already (Gas or Electric).........do everything you can to stay away from them.... |

Oh I'm definitely under the income threshold but it's the age of the child that is the problem. On the main page it says '5 and under' and on the online form it says 'child under 5'. Can't get through on phone as when they are busy they divert all their resources to breakdowns (though I imagine the sales lines still work!) |
