Ok calling all the docs and nurses on fab
My 8 year old has had a bit of a barky cough but after having a drink last nught he choked. Basically his pipes narrowed so much to the size if a straw the paramedic said so naturally he began to cough bark and splutter and was a bit sick. He was struggling to breathe. We ended up calling 999 as I thought he was having an asthma attack. ( we have it in the family). By the time they arrived his breathing had calmed but they took us to hospital anyway as they suggested some meds he needed to help.
When we got seen by a doctor about 3 and half hours after initial problem his cough had stopped and no barking so no meds. We got home this morning after 2am.
So my question is what can anyone suggest for me to do this eve please.
My plan is a hot lavendar bath with karvol dropped into the water too. Lots of steam. Door closed and then vicks on his chest and feet (friend suggested for reflexology help) then calpol and ibuprofen. Olbas oil on the bed.
Is there anything else I can do?? All help appreciated

Take him to your own doctor and they may give you an inhaler. When my son has a bad cough I find giving him an inhaler just before bed helps to open his airways. |

Extra pillow s will do. Hadn't thought of that.
Lickity....hoover the bed?? Is that because it could be dusty inside and cause problems with his breathing? Can you explain hunny please x |

Beds are full of dust mites. Vacuuming the bed to reduce the external dust and the dust mite cases helps a bit. Children breathe naturally so often take better breaths than we do as adults. Do the pillows too.
It's just about reducing the amount of irritants he has around him when he is not consciously controlling his breathing.

A tip I was given was to put the extra pillow under the mattress. Means even if they move off pillow they are still slightly propped up. |

That's why you use bricks - they have a divot in one side you can put the feet/casters in to hold them steady. |

I was always told not to use lavender with asthma suffers as it can trigger attacks, both my kids suffer from croup when they get colds and the barking cough and gasping for breath are the norm. What I do is wrap them in a blanket and take them out to the front door step and let the cool air open their air ways again, they often fall asleep in my arms and I put them to bed then |

My little one doesn't have asthma but we have it in the family. His sibling has it. His symptoms presented like an attack I guess but he just struggled to breathe so called 999.
We have done hot bath and calpol so see how the night goes x |
