All these recent weather disasters had me checking my emergency boxes... My kids think I'm off my head.
But in each one is supplies and things like first aid kits, wind up generator etc.. I have dried packet foods. Some tinned stuff etc.. bottles of water, batteries, clothes etc.. as winter approaches I will move one into my car..
So do you have stuff to hand in case of emergency

In the car I do.
Full first aid kit including 5 emergency foil blankets.
Shovel.
Oil.
Ready mixed coolant.
Foot pump and electric pump.
Jump leads.
De-icer.
Scraper.
Small bag of grit. |

I keep a walking coat, high vis waistcoat, a can of tyre inflate, a first aid kit and walking boots and socks in my car all year round.
There are also a couple of travel rugs and I'll be adding bottled water.
I don't do so many long journeys or journeys in lonely areas at the moment but I have been stuck on the hard shoulder in bad weather and also had to abandon my car and walk home before so I want to at least be prepared if I have to walk.
Btw a bag of the gravel style cat litter is great to put under wheels on compacted snow/ice to help get purchase.  |

The wind up generator isn't very powerful but would charge phones etc which could be important... I just like to be prepared...
I also have some cheap games things in there.. if for whatever reason we had no power or something, I'd hate to be stuck with bored falling out kids..
I think it stems from my dad always having a emergency box when we were younger x |

I have nothing like that planned
I have a pair of gold sparkly high heels and a riding crop in the boot of my car...I will either die in an emergency or have an awesome time  |

Some people live in mire rural areas than others and if you can only afford an older and possibly less reliable car then emergency kit is very useful.
And as a single female (like cali) if I am able to resolve a problem by myself it's got to be better than hoping someone will drive past - the police recommend that a woman alone should be very careful of who she accepts help from. |

I actually need to get my car sorted.. as because it's a motobility one I've not put much in it. Only water, warm coats etc.. oh but lots of lingerie and toys lol
I will admit the gps compass and maps maybe a little overkill but well they were cheap.
I live on the edge of the peak district and you never know what may happen. I just was watching those storms and thinking I'm glad it doesn't happen here... |

I don't have anything prepared , I will put a bag together which I will leave in car should I get stranded at work and after reading this I will put a couple of extra things together for car. |

In cold conditions bottled water freezes and there's little chance that you're going to be stranded for long enough to require either food or water nowadays. An important thing to remember is if you're stranded in the middle of nowhere and need emergency help dial 112 rather than 999, its a GPS enabled service (999 isn't), so they'll know where you are even if you don't and only the operator can disconnect the call, not the caller. |

same here and carry one in both our cars 24/7. As well as a crash call and a premature birthing kit, Just in case.
Being organised is always the best way,prepare for the worse then you'll never be caught out.

My kids call it the zombie invasions box lol... And add things from time to time...
My lad added a plastic baseball bat lol
Oh and ladies there is actually a wind up vibrator available..
I love wind up things. Have wind up torches, radio and the generator. And two solar lamps x |

I will be putting a blanket in my car today. There's already de icer, oil, coolant, a scraper, and water for the car. I'll also be adding some sweets and water and diluting juice. Will prob throw in a jumper and a pair of thick socks too this week. |

Don't forget a pair of practical shoes - recovery guys laughed at me in my walking boots over fishnets once but it was better, warmer and drier than stumbling round the hard shoulder in my five inch heels! |

It's sensible. A few years ago, we had a snowstorm that stranded a lot of people in town overnight. I came across a d*unk who was walking on a broken leg and couldnt get an ambulance. A taxi driver smashed into a line of cars because it was a total whiteout and he was still speeding around like an idiot.
The next day, the shop I worked in was stripped bare because people were panicking that we wouldn't be able to stock up again. The way people treated each other was horrendous, so rather than put up with the likes of that, it's sensible to stock up on cheap essentials, and keep a steady supply. Even in the city, you dont know when everyday things we take for granted will break down; society being one of those things.
We have one of our sheds stocked up with a few bits. I also know some of the fine arts of food preservation if the electricity goes off and leaves the freezer food waiting to spoil.
Desperate times call for desperate measures but if a daytrip to asda in winter tells you anything, it doesn't take much for the majority of sheep to declare desperate times! |

I have prepped...
Generator
Twin gas camping cooker
Gas heater plus I have acquired enough gas to last quite a while
torches and spare batteries
Candles and jam jars (improvised lanterns)
Ration packs
We had a power line down here a couple of years ago that blacked out the area for two days and at that time we only had a small gas camping stove, torches and candles, but we were still way more prepared than everyone else locally.

im a truck drive, so always have my night out gear in the car.
dry food, water, change of clothes, sleeping bag, wipes lol.
so im all set.
just now gotta find an ice scraper lol |

They say you should be prepared on the journey to work, so I always carried the list they suggested....

Have they changed that recently?
The only reason why I ask is, my car went on fire while I was driving it and because I didn't know exactly how far down a road I had driven I couldn't tell the operator exactly where I was. She couldn't hear me properly either and thought I had been cut off on my mobile but I could hear her tell the FB exactly where I was. They tuned up with lights flashing and all dressed in uniforms with hats and things and put my fire out so she happily got it right where I was  |

Have they changed that recently?

Not sure but as far as in aware 999 has never been GPS enabled although it could have changed depending on location like the NHS Direct/111 service as I know Leicester hasn't yet changed over to 111 yet. |
