Yeah, I know, I'm not known for posting serious threads but here we go...
In my will and to my nearest and dearest, I've stated my desire to be cremated (preferably to "Disco Inferno") but I've recently organised for my Mam to donate her body to medical science when she pops her clogs (it's what she wants, I didn't just do it on spec )...anyhoo, if the medical school accept the remains, all the estate has to do is bear the cost of transportation to the hospital, which apparently will be around £150 so I've decided I'm also going to do the same as I'd prefer my benefactees to not have to bother with the cost of a funeral/cremation, the medical school cremate the remains once they've done whatever it is they want to do, family can opt to have remains back if they so desire, but Mam isn't bothered, we have our memories and will be able to have a Remembrance service once she goes (same for me)...win-win situation in my opinion.
Anyone else considered this? |

"No, but I wish I had! I know someone who had their gran snuff it recently and there was a shortfall on the policy. This is a cracking idea. "
You can still do it for yourself if you want Tina, google Human Tissue Authority, body donation...Arse End's nearest med school is Liverpool so it's a bit of a trek, might be a closer one to you (though they may not accept your titz, being as they're not natural ...only problem I can foresee is that the med school can turn the body down for various reasons such as if an autopsy is required or some medical conditions so would then be down to the estate to dispose of again which kinda negates having a funeral plan |

No I havent given that a thought, I actually think the kids would not like that despite my joking about the subject of my death and what we should do...guess I could bring it up.
I have no objection to them taking the bits they need via organ donation tho.
These days one can pay for and arrange a funeral before the event so it doesn't need to be dealt with by the family. You just need to plan in advance decide on the service the way you want.
We have a great animal crem near us called Dignity and have often joked about them coming and taking me away. recon they would come in under the price of a regular people crem despite my size. |

Apparently they have too many people wanting to donate their bodies so its rare these days for them to be accepted. Unless you have weird physiology or a spectacular disease they don't really need them any more. But worth a try.
I intend to have a funeral pyre, with lovers and friends hurled onto my smoking remains and a full chorus of mourners. |

I can understand if your children wouldn't want it, however it's always been my Mam's wish and we respect her choice...not meaning that to sound preachy or critical of your children, it's difficult to get the sense across in writing sometimes |

My mam does have a rareish disease so whether that makes any difference , I dunno..we'll just have to wait and see...
Her Dr did say he didn't think she'd make 50, but she's 71 next month and he died of a hear attack a couple of years ago - weird old world eh? |

The Dead Collector: Bring out yer dead.
[a man puts a body on the cart]
Large Man with Dead Body: Here's one.
The Dead Collector: That'll be ninepence.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not dead.
The Dead Collector: What?
Large Man with Dead Body: Nothing. There's your ninepence.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not dead.
The Dead Collector: 'Ere, he says he's not dead.
Large Man with Dead Body: Yes he is.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not.
The Dead Collector: He isn't.
Large Man with Dead Body: Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm getting better.
Large Man with Dead Body: No you're not, you'll be stone dead in a moment.
The Dead Collector: Well, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I don't want to go on the cart.
Large Man with Dead Body: Oh, don't be such a baby.
The Dead Collector: I can't take him.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I feel fine.
Large Man with Dead Body: Oh, do me a favor.
The Dead Collector: I can't.
Large Man with Dead Body: Well, can you hang around for a couple of minutes? He won't be long.
The Dead Collector: I promised I'd be at the Robinsons'. They've lost nine today.
Large Man with Dead Body: Well, when's your next round?
The Dead Collector: Thursday.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I think I'll go for a walk.
Large Man with Dead Body: You're not fooling anyone, you know. Isn't there anything you could do?
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I feel happy. I feel happy.
[the Dead Collector glances up and down the street furtively, then silences the Body with his a whack of his club]
Large Man with Dead Body: Ah, thank you very much.
The Dead Collector: Not at all. See you on Thursday.
Large Man with Dead Body: Right.

Liverpool's 100 miles away, we'd only probably save £80 odd quid...besides, we'd be too busy partying and singing "Ding, dong, the witch is dead"
That's a joke, just in case anyone wondered |

I've been making inquiries about that. Organ donor vs brain donor. Sadly, those two organisations work separately, which I think is a pity and a waste of material.
If funeral costs are a problem, then there's a lot of DIY that can be done nowadays. You can make the coffin/paint the shroud yourself, take care of the transport of the body - info in abundance online. Church services are not compulsory. The only thing you cannot do is dig the grave - that has to be done professionally for obvious reasons.

I would not donate my body to medical science.
I agree and applaud those whose wish it is to aid medical research and I agree their wishes should be carried out.
But in all reality I wouldn't like the thought of my loved ones being cadavers for students to practise procedures on and I don't want that for myself.
I want to be laid to rest after cremation or burial as soon as possible after death and have a headstone erected, all very traditional.
My mother organised and paid for her own funeral after my father died. She chose everything, even down to the church service, so when the time came I didn't have to think or arrange. The funeral directors were excellent. I shall do this also so my children will not have to deal with this when they are in mourning and vulnerable. |

Don't waste your time, my gran died recently 102, she was very wrinkly, I just took her body to local beauty shop and asked if I could pop her in the tank, with the fish that eat old skin of your feet, only cost £10 |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
Look at Natural Death Centre.
All of my bits are ready for donation, including my brain. National Neuro nabbed that a couple of years ago and everything has always been on order.
They don't want my cadaver though.
I think it's a good way to go.

Organ donation is another way but if some poor student (like there is such a thing with grants and loans etc) can benefit from my death hey why not! Ok so my kids and family may feel differently but at the end of the day it's my body so in life or death still my choice! |
