Truly awe inspiring, like the way rugby players sing their hearts out for the national anthem, brings tears to our eyes. Lesson for football there. How many people have become aware of the maori culture because of the haka at rugby. Proper game too and well done Dan Carter, 100 caps for the blacks, only 4 other players achieved it. Your dad who was there must be hugely proud. |

I think it's incredible. We've been lucky enough to experience one live and it's not just the sound and sight of it....you can feel it reverberate through the ground and the air....and boy would I like an hour or ten with those guys |

must say, even as a bloke, i love to watch the haka.
so intense
just makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
we should do something similar with our national dance.
morris dancing round the goals should do it |

"Speaking of which, 'erhem' - haven't seen too many threads about yesterdays game of union; why's that, I wonder??????????? "
I doubt the Scotland forum will be bristling with them either. |

The haka is a powerful thing.
recently watched a video of a NZ soldiers funeral procession. Each service has its own haka and to watch that many soldiers, in uniform surround the car that the coffin is in and perform a haka bought tears to my eyes. such emotion is a powerful thing. |

this isnt about the rugby its about the haka "
Which is terrifying enough in the open air. What it must be like somewhere like the Millennium Stadium with the roof shut I can't imagine. |

its a fantastic sight however it as been lessened by the fact the rugby authorites have stopped opposition teams reacting to it as it is a challenge laid down to the opposition.
one of the best responses is Wales in 2008

I saw it live at Headingley on Friday. The kiwis s completely out matched the scots. The thighs and arms. .... how I managed to not charge the field and dive in the middle of a scrum I don't know. As well as being amazing athletes! |

West Wales and Cardiff |
I've seen it a few times at Wales and Llanelli matches. It is mightily impressive.
Fans if both sides used to love it. However, there's much more bad feeling about it these days. There's definitely a perception that the All Blacks have become far too pious about it - it kinda came to a head when they played Wales a few years back.
The fact that they insist on it being performed last, with nothing after it, even when they are playing away from home in another country has definitely caused some bad feeling.
I think some of the Pacific Island teams' Hakas are better these days. |

"The best thing any opposition team could do is turn their backs.its aimed to intimidate and get an advantage.turning away would rattle them." its considered disrespectful to turn away. The best response I ever saw was the opposing captain walking right into the Kiwi's space and staring them down.

agreed they want their challenge to be accepted and if anything another challenge given back.
new zealand v Tonga is usually good as they both perform their haka's at the same time. |
