Never been to Yellowstone, but spent a week in Yosemite California a few years back. I hiked up a few peaks but the serious climbing nutters spend 2 days in harnesses roped to El Capitan (a 3000ft sheer rock face). If I ever wanted to spend 2 days in ropes and harnesses, I think it'd be easier to go the the dungeon at Junction 2. |

I was travelling around the USA many years ago and spent a week or two camping in & around Yellowstone and it is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.
One time I remember driving along an increasingly thin and rugged track, till it got to the point where I had to stop the car. But I could see about 500 yards further ahead a gate with a big sign on it. So I got out and walked up to the sign. It said "Do not under any circumstances leave your vehicle. This area has a number of wild bears who have been involved in potentially dangerous incidents with visitors." Clever bit of signage - I'd never ambled so quickly in my life |

"Lots of animals fleeing yellow stone and some say it indicates that a possible super volcano is about to come alive "
Doesn't matter where you are in the world. That erupts and your dead. Even if you survive the smoke/ash/lava, etc. There'll be nothing left to eat as everything will be soot. Seen the film and documentary. Very interesting and shocking too |

Something stupid like 95% will be wiped out. The cleverer animals that can survive in the wild/sea will have a much higher success rate than the humans. So it all depends on how much survival skills the remaining humans have. Like I said though. The air will be so impure that will make you die a slow and frustrating death and that could last for days/weeks, even months. Depends on the atmosphere, where you are, etc. Transport will be buggered as well as they showed what one little spec of ash contains |

Not quite that bad... It's gone up a few times and earth is still Here. Central and northern America won't be a good place to be and it will most likely put us back into an ice age but it won't kill us all. It's overdue though |

"As in Yellow Stone park?
That place will be the death of us when it erupts."
Maybe some smartarse can tell me ( unless I am that thick). Why can they just get a silly amount of liquid nitrogen and water from the oceans, etc and pour it over there |

It's had small eruptions. If it goes off completely I meant. The smaller ones make it dangerous though as a smaller one can set it off and the more small ones there are. The more likely it is to set off a big one. Have to watch that super volcano DVD again. |

I'm guessing it's because it's an active volcano and you can hardly freeze the earths core. |

Nope it's gone off properly every 600million years or so.. the Caldera moves as the hot spot does. Too many movie's/ documentaries like to big it up a bit... Not to say it won't be amazing but deadly when it does erupt... but it's not a earth ending eruption... But will affect a lot of people...
It last properly erupted about 750million years ago.. I maybe off on my years a little but think it's about right..
Trouble is there is so Much bs available about yellow stone... Best to read the info ftom the observatory at the national park.
I don't see the other super volcanoes getting called into it... And they are pretty big too and not all dormant |

That's why I want to watch the supervolcano DVD again as it's got the proper documentary about it. Can remember images, but not stats. Just know the damage it can do, that's it. |

"It's not really a proper documentary though but it is quite good. There is A super volcano in Germany too that makes good reading about x "
I am sure there are 2 discs on DVD for the film. 1 is like a story of the film with some facts thrown in and the 2nd one is actually more serious and is a proper documentary. Will have a look when I can be bothered to get up, lol |

If it's the one I'm thinking of its got some facts but is about as much a documentary as the Blair witch project.. not that it won't be pretty catastrophic but we honestly only have previous eruption data to go on... And there were no people then but plenty of species survived...
Yellow stone is an amazing place and on my to visit list.... |

According to "Wiki" the last eruption was 650 thousand years ago and the previous one was 1.3 million years ago, and the one before that was 2.1 million years ago. That gives a time gap of 800 thousand years between the first and second, and 650 thousand years between the second and third which was 650 thousand years ago. GULP |
