Conference freebies

I like the conference give-aways, especially the stationery. Lately the sweets, stationery and toy freebies have been lacking. They have been replaced with screen cloths and the odd stylus.

I miss the multi-pronged multicolour high lighter.

What's the best conference freebie you have managed to grab? What's your favourite?

Don't know about favourites,

But picked up

Calendars,

Juggling balls,

Mugs,

Lanyards,

Stress balls,

USB Drives,

Mouse mats,

Keyrings,

Wallets,

Ipad Case I have a decent one anyways, but picked it up to give to someone who didn't have one

Other than that the usual run of pens, pencils, hi-lighters

The energy and sustainability ones I have been to always give away the water hippos for the toilet cistern. And the obligatory canvas or hessian bag.

An iPad case is unusual. I've never seen wallets. I think you go to better sponsored conferences than the ones I get to these days.

Erasable pen! Lucky you. I haven't had one of those.

The best pen I picked up, many years ago, was a ballpoint at one end and a highlighter at the other end.

Not a conference, but on a training course I got a USB drive.

Reps and companies give/send us mugs, pens, crappy little notepads, wooly hats, biscuits, haribos, beer at Christmas, keyrings, just odds and sods really.

You do find some tight wad companies who only give a Chuppa Chup, but on the other hand some companies who like to spend stupid amounts of money on freebies to keep people happy

Is it good quality paper or one of those really cheap ones that you don't want to use?

I don't think I have ever bought a USB stick. They come in handy.

In my work we don't get things like that. It's not done and can't be accepted. A long time ago contractors used to deliver crates of wine to the office at Christmas for specific managers but the rules meant that they couldn't have them. I used to keep them for the office party.

I agree, as you say, these gifts of goodwill sent to companies are no longer allowed. But no kidding my ex manager from one of my jobs many years ago, used to ask the clients to send the gifts to her home address.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

My favourite conference freebies are a magnetic paperclip holder, and a document holder filled with purple sand.

My contractors are obviously suffering, because I don't even get my annual mousemat and crappy diary anymore.

Great way to encourage new business ?

I've never seen that. If they offered leather clad men it would be difficult to fit them in the canvas bag.

Conference bags/briefcases (apart from the canvas ones)also appear to have disappeared.

What if the sand escaped? I haven't seen a diary freebie in about 5 years.

I like the sweets - pick n mix is my favourite, so I make sure I get plenty.

Last conference I got a branded condom which was funny.

I like things such as Ian multi device chargers.

Best thing for me was winning an all expenses paid day to ascot.

I can tell you are in the private sector just from the all expenses paid day to Ascot.

Condoms a plenty at sexual health conferences but I haven't ever had any branded with company marketing details.

Private sector indeed. The big downfall to the private sector is that they scrutinize every penny you spend in every day work, and no pay rise for 3 years. So you have to take other perks when they arise.

20 odd years ago I got a handful of blank holographic credit/debit/bank cards...

Up till about 6/7 years ago my bank were willing to use my blanks to make my cards for me. Sadly they closed the banks back office and now I have to do with the standard card they send me every 2 years

I am amazed at how many of you take USB sticks, do you use them at work or at home? Do you also take free software?

The easiest way to get spyware onto a secure commercial system is to get some idiot working within the organization to introduce it for you (saves all that hacking) and the easiest way to do that is to give infected freebies away at and outside trade-fares and conferences! LoL
