21 would be ideal as anti social behaviour of piss heads consists of age groups 16 to 20

I was about 13 didn't get d*unk until I was 17 though.

If kids want to drink they will drink regardless of the law, most shops ask for ID if you look under 25 but doubt it has changed a thing.

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds)

Legal drinking age in the england isn t 18 thats the legal age to purchase alcohol, under certain circumstances its permitted to have alcohol from 5 years old,

In answer to your question I would have been about 15 ,, prohibition never works, education is far more important,

"21 would be ideal as anti social behaviour of piss heads consists of age groups 16 to 20"

they really dont stop being piss heads and anti social at 20 im afraid.

there are plenty of idiots staggering around the streets, making a nuisance of themselves in their mid 30's.

me, i had my first drink at 14, and have never really been a drinker since.

have been fall down pissed maybe 3 times in my life.

been merry a few times

but never really liked the taste of any alcoholic drink.

the age, leave it. makes no difference anyway. its more of the attitude rather than the age of the person involved.

Age is just a number, people mature at different ages, so no one age suits everyone, what is important with regards to, smoking, drinking, sex and drugs is information and education.

I think 18 if fine I just don't understand why kids need to drink on the streets thinking they are hard or something and my first drink was about 12 at home and my Dad offered it to me after that I didn't really drink until I was 17 when I could get into pubs without being asked for I'D

"wont make a differences as they still drink in the streets or at pals "

That could be curtailed if shopkeepers, local residents and cops decided to take it more seriously.

When I was about 14 I went home and threw my guts up

But instead of giving me a good hideing, my dad bought me some beers to drink in house so I didn't have to go on the street drinking. Obviously I could only have a couple on a weekend, but it changed my attitude towards drinking

"Age is just a number, people mature at different ages, so no one age suits everyone, what is important with regards to, smoking, drinking, sex and drugs is information and education.

"

here's my personal thoughts .....hear me out please.

education & attitude is the key to responsible drinking/ alcohol use , similar to smoking ....the government made smoking illegal in public places ( a whole new debate if Thats right or wrong ) .....so that has killed the pub industry ( so some claim )...

here's a puzzle that i dont fully understand or agree with .....

in our local supermarket all tobacco products are now hidden behind shutters, i.m a 50 yr old man that isn't allowed to view tobacco products and have to decide what i want from a list on the counter .....i sometimes like the odd cigar so dont always wish to buy my usual product but not allowed to view the choices available.......but i can ( & so can people of any age ) can wander up & down the booze aisles and view every alcoholic product available

. how can that be right ? alcohol is advertised on tv freely more so in the run up to the festive period and promotes drinking in general.

i.m not looking to start a debate on the rights and wrongs of drinking or smoking but my point is ......surely a level playing field should be in place ....or am I wrong ?

i.m not saying people under age are able to purchase alcohol just cos its on view but why hide tobacco products ?

i.ve never heard of the police being needed to deal with someone of legal age that has purchased tobacco products ......have you ?

if they need to hide tobacco products for reasons they believe are valid then surely alcohol products should also ?

That's an interesting response. I've had adverse comments from friends who have teenage kids when I suggested they, the kids, be allowed a glass of well diluted wine with their meal.

It seems to work on mainland Europe.

But that would make it worse as 20 year old's would be drinking in the street asking people to buy them booze!

We gave our kids watered down wine and small amounts of any drink they asked for from a very early age, they both went through the teen years uninterested in street drinking, and even now in their 20's are mostly the sober ones on a night out.

Prohibition makes the product more desirable, education makes it more sensible. Pubs are a very good part of British culture, one that is actually envied by foreign friends. For the majority it is under control, but bar staff need to be better at stopping sales when people have had enough.

18 seems to me to be a good border line to allow access to pubs, maybe 21 could be introduced for supermarket sales to encourage the social aspect over the d*unken side.
