I've been thinking about this a lot lately.
I think patients should be given the option as to whether or not they want to know how long they have.
I'm not sure I'd want to know.
Very sad. |

How bloody awful J. How thoughtless to take her kids away? What on earth will that achieve...even more misery for all concerned in the last months!
I'm sooo sorry x |

That's total rubbish he needs to be getting some legal advice. It is social services duty to look to place with family first as long as it's a viable option!! |

Don't get me started on social services....I've had applicants on my caseload phoning me up in tears saying that social services are threatening to take their children off them....and been in screaming matches with a social worker who refuses to see sense.... |

There will always be a reason why Social Services threaten this though.

Oh that's horrible! With all the kids they let slip through the system, they take hers away and rob them of their remaining time with their mother? Horrible. I'm so sorry to hear that.

It is rare that I am lost for words, but this is a disgrace. She should be allowed to MAKE memories with her children, not be separated from them....
Prayers for your friend, her children, and her parents and family. |

Funnily enough in this case I'm dealing with there is no reason or I have sorted it and they refuse to listen I can't go into detail as it will give a lot away but I have some stories about social services |

Yep, and can't remove kids without a Court Order. It's not like social services to cough up for foster care if there's another option |

Yes i can imagine so, as you hear about kids being left with bad neglectful parents a lot. |

Exactly. People sometimes forget it's the judges and the courts that make the final decisions and even then they have to meet a fairly high threshold to even get there!! |

That's disgusting. Yet they happily leave kids with abusive parents. It's all wrong. |

Tell me about it.....had to leave kids in less than great circumstances cos there wasn't enough evidence to get them out.
Like everything else in Court you have to PROVE why it's not in the child's best interests to be at home. Social workers cannot just walk into a house and walk out with children under their arm!! |

a truly heartbreaking story ...you would think nothing could get worse being told you are about to die at such a tender age but to then have people muscle in and take your children from you is unthinkable !
i dont understand why she and her children werent allowed to alter their living arrangements and maybe move in with her father or another family member who could offer them support and if his house isnt big enough then one that is should be provided in my mind. This ladies need seem hugely bigger than most other peoples ...i wish her all the very best and hope she finds peace ! |

Life is incredibly unfair! My heart goes out to this young lady and her children. However what I will say is that as the brain tumour gets worse and takes an adverse affect on her, would she want her children to have memories of her in pain or confused etc. Without knowing the full facts, its difficult to say why this has happened, it would make sense to me that the children should be placed with family members. What I would like to say though is that I work for a private fostering agency, and the carers on our books are amazing, most of them go above and beyond to make sure the children in their care are happy. I truly hope an arrangement can be made for this young lady to spend as much time with her children as possible before she is cruelly taken away!!! |

My mother died when I was two, my father brought me up alone. He was married to her for 14 years and wanted no other. Children do adapt and can cope, social services have no reason to take them away earlier, they should be allowed to stay and cherish every moment.
A very good friend I worked with for 15 years was diagnosed with a brain tumour, they tried everything. He was gone in 9 months ... Awful illness, cancer is such a bastard.

I'm incredibly sorry to hear about your friend. Brain tumours or illnesses affecting my brain are my worst nightmare. I could take being paralysed etc, but I couldn't live if I lost brain function.
To play the devil's advocate slightly, it's easy to kick social workers when we don't have all the facts. It is actually very difficult for social workers to remove children from families, and they have a statutory duty to do what is best for the children. We don't know all the facts here. Look at the uproar when social workers are less heavy handed and something goes wrong. They work in incredibly stressful and difficult situations. Perhaps we ought to reserve judgment given we only know part of one side of the story? |
