A Secret Hideaway In the caravan of love |
Given the recent inflation busting increases in energy prices and working people facing certain debt as they see their incomes unable to cope
When the vast majority of working people are lucky to see a 1 - 2% pay rise, it doesn't take much of a mathematician to work out this cannot carry on. With working people turning to food banks, then something is seriously wrong. |

I suppose it depends how you define decent.
A decent wage will be different for each of us.
For me a decent wage would be £5 an hour and being able to work 50 hours a week, that would pay my bills and give me a comfortable standard of living.
Unfortunatly when you are self employed, there is no minimum wage, no sick pay and no security, but the quality of life is usually well worth the low income. |

"A decent wage is one that allows you and your family to be nourished, keep warm and clothed."
Isnt that a basic wage, what about holidays, cars, entertainment, to many the basics are not enough. |

Yes I suppose it is but I made my comments in the context of the original post. |

Im lucky enough to have a very well paid job and have had so since i was 19
and i worked bloody hard to get it. We do splash out on the luxuries and enjoy doing so.
But before all this it was £95 a week apprentice wage. And a £2 t shirt from primark was splashing out.
So glad i jumped ship |

Public sector are the only people getting cost of living rises now, see that in our Council Tax rises. I have not had a cost of living rise since 2005.
Decent wage is unrestricting so I would put it at £40k-£60k. The average is £24k, which means there must be a bunch at £12k ...
This has forced both adults out to work to get an average house income of £48k ... Which, as house loans are 3x one and 1x other has put house prices at a level (priced to demand) that is higher than US per sqft.
Anyone who stays home to look after kids puts home into poverty ... The UK now assumes all homes have dual income. ... Gas, electric, mortgages, council tax all priced at two income household.
Hence the reason the average family is struggling.
I wonder what would happen if the lower income of every household quit work ... |

We all tend to live above our means anyway, i earn £12k i had to take a nightshift for six nights a week just to get the unsociable hours benefit and push my wage to £15k.
I only just survive on that. |

A friend and ex colleague of mine has a £15k basic salary which he is able to top up to about £20k in bonus' and overtime. His wife doesn't work, he has three children,a brand new family car and has just bought his first house (granted he had help with his depsoit)
He spends his money sensibly and mainly on his children and giving them a high standard of living, which in turn satisfies him. And he classifies himself as one of richest people around simply because of his level of happiness. |

A decent wage .... Could be as low as 5k/yr depending on ur circumstances .... I earn over 50k for working 25-30hours a week....and I still feel like I'm struggling ... Lool I don't think we can ever make enough money . |

Lady of low income here (less than 12k), my bills are paid, we eat good food, don't have holidays or the latest gadgetry ... But we (me and my spawn) are rich in love and happiness. |

Think the answer is simple...
A decent wage is enough that you can afford to eat well, cloth yourself, pay your bills, without having to rely on loans and put a little by every week/month for unexpected emergencies. |

Decent wage could be a lot easier if we wernt taxed so much, I do lots of overtime just too see it go to the tax man which is gut wrenching.... Overtime should be tax free ... |
