I went to see this last night and was blown away. Very often films can be a bit of a let-down after reading the book, but in this case (just as with Atonement) the film did justice to the book. It was directed by Peter Jackson (the Lord of The Rings guy) and although the story was harrowing, the film was a masterpiece. The casting was fantastic. Mark Wahlberg was brilliant as the loving and distraught father, and Rachel Weisz (form The Mummy films – not up to much IMHO) was a complete revelation as the mother who has to escape as her world falls apart. The victim Susie Salmon (played by Saoirse Ronan) was utterly believable as an ordinary love-struck teenager, and Stanley Tucci gave very creepy performance as Mr. Harvey (the serial killer). My only reservations were the ‘Heaven’ scenes, but they were always going to be difficult, so all in all the film makers did a brilliant job.
Highly Reccommended!!!
PS. The music and soundtrack were wonderful too.
