An ongoing MSN survey suggest 48% of those questioned claimed to waste less that £ 10 worth of food per month while 21% claimed to waste none at all and only 6% claimed to wasted more that £40 worth

So how much food goes to waste in your house each month?

A, Absolutely none?

B, Less than £10 worth?

C, Less than £20 worth?

D, Less than £30 worth?

E, Less than £40 worth?

F, More than £40 worth?

I think we'd be at £10 or less but I have to say that any scraps that would go in the bins go for our chickens.

A..the only food items I can recall throwing away in the past six months are three peaches that failed to ripen and had a terrible texture and taste. It was the second successive lot like this I'd had and the first lot weren't good enough to eat as fruit and were made into a fruit turnover.

I don't buy food to throw away...why do this? I guess I was brought up to eat what was on your plate and if you didn't you starved. My attitude with food is that it is a valuable resource that has taken a lot of effort to produce and that there are too many people starving in the world.

Somewhere in North Norfolk

Less than £10

I sometimes throw out part of a loaf of bread because it's gone mouldy before I've finished it. I try to buy what I need but can't always estimate accurately.

I buy milk for coffee and tea for visitors but can't use it myself so sometimes that doesn't get used and goes off.

Occasionally bottles of sauce or similar go past their use by date before they are finished and go out.

I rarely throw any other food away.

I'm currently changing the way I buy and cook though, so it'll be interesting to see if what I waste changes too.
