Have you ever chastised someone elses children?

I have noticed there seems to be an ever increasing of children behaving badly out in public.
I have been tempted to say something, but usually just try and ignore it.
Myself and my sisters were never allowed to back chat , scream and shout when on an outing or even when out shopping.
Do you ever say anything to the children or their parents? |

I think nothing of telling children in the reception area where I work to behave appropriately. Usually because they are running around, being noisey or standing on furniture. If the parents don't like it then they can all wait outside.
Outside of work, it's unusual. I did say something at an airport to the parents of a child that kicked me while queuing but it very much depends where I am. |

If they are with their parents, no.
However, if the parent is ignoring them, or not present then yes.
As soon as children start to think no one cares, then that's how they behave.
Don't expect any thanks for it though, gone are the days that a parent would be ashamed that someone had cause to complain about their offspring.

When we are away abroad I've often been the only adult supervising several kids and yes if I felt they were in danger spoken to them and then they're parents
Sadly normally get a thanks from them
Do they take Anymore notice of they're kids .... Nope

It depends on what age they were what they were doing and if anyone was in danger I wouldn't jump in but I wouldn't shy away either. |

I can't say I ever have, apart from nieces & nephews.
If my children were being badly behaved and I wasn't there to witness it, I would hope somebody would act appropriately and tell them to sort it out. Children often take heed to adults other than their own parents in my opinion. |

"and this is why i wouldn't tell any child off for you do not know what the carers reaction will be!!
When i was younger i would get a clip round the head for misbehaving even from strangers and then my parents would give me another one just to hammer the message home
nowerdays if i did something similar id probably get done for abuse "
And so you should if you physically hit them.
If however you make a polite request that's a little harder to ignore or respond to with violence. |

"Yes. I've even had teenagers apologise to me! I've also told parents I don't like what their kids are doing." Good for you, but you are braver than me, heaven only knows what the repercussions may be.

I do. Not often if their parents are present but when they are on their own in a public place and misbehaving then I will tell them off, nicely.
The neighbourhood children all know not to mess around with me - I have a very hard stare.

I took the OP to mean tell off. Clearly that is what I meant when I said I get paid for the privilege!!
seriously though. i don't see a problem with telling a child off if they are misbehaving |

I did once tell a parent off in front of their children. It was outside the school gates and the parent dropped litter. The child was tugging their arm to pick it up and they were walking away from the litter. I picked up their litter, handed it back saying they had dropped something and the woman dropped it again. That's when I told her she was setting a bad example to every child that could see her and she should be ashamed.

I've told of my mate's kids before. We were in my car travelling somewhere and her child was messing about and taking his seatbelt off. She didn't tell him off so I stopped the car and said he should either get his seatbelt on and behave or we were going home. He got his seatbelt on. |

"most teenagers are reasonable if you talk to them"
I've been pleasantly surprised with our local teenagers. If you talk to them respectfully they respond the same way. I guess they are used to their parents either ignoring them or just yelling at them. |

Yes its never welcomed .to the parent or child depending on the behaviour .if its to me and unacceptable the child then the parent explaining that.if they have a tantrum and throw themselves to the floor i just walk over them .i personally wish there was children free restraunts in the evening .nothing worse than a baby or child throwing a tantrum to spoil a special occasion .and yes before you say it some parents do take their baby's out late .the only way to avoid it we see at the moment is chose a high class a la carte one that does no child menus .i love children but there are times when you want occasions without them.i think the witch in hansel and gretel was misunderstood .the greedy fuckers were eating her house .lol. poppyxx |

O often do with my sisters children as she doesnt and the behaviour can be awful, but wouldnt a strangers child.
I did however once have a huge to do with a d*unk lady who almost pulled the arm off her child and was shaking her and shouting.
I was just about to go into work and knew there were officers on site....ss were involved and she didnt get to take the child home alone...not sure what happened after.
Some adults act just as bad tho and kids learn from them....we wouldnt dare back chat adults at home never mind out as kids....a stern look from my mother would put us off |

I hate that. Parents screaming in the face of little kids. I want to help the kid but daren't for fear of what the parent would do to the child when they got home. |

I have in our local village a few times when the teenagers are out causing havoc, often I've walked up to them asked them if they have nothing better to do, also offered suggestions of things they could do, sadly most of it occurs when the local youth club is shut, most respond well if you talk to them like human beings I tend to find |

Yes. Happy to tell a misbehaving little shit off. The worst ones are those that run around in a restaurant. I usually find putting a foot out and let feckers fall on their faces soon stops them! |

Careful you will get pounced upon and threatened with violence if it was their kids. |

Yes all the time if they are in my house or garden.
My now 16yr old has had the house full of friends and often sleep overs over the years. I lay down the rules and if I have to keep repeating myself they are out and banned for a week.
I have earn't alot of respect from the friends of my children and even if I see them swearing in the street I will have words and will always get a sorry.
Only on one occassion did I have a parent round and that was because I took a bottle of Vodka off of an underaged teen.
I gave it back to the mum and then she banned him from coming round.... It's so sad when I see that what I call the inbetweeners have no where to go, if they meet down the park they get moved on etc.
I live right outside a primary school and I have seen mums scream at their children in their little faces and only once have I spoken to them, but I have seen others step in too, only to get loads of abuse. |

i do tell my sisters kids off tough and lay down the law o friends kids if they are in my car. woe betide any future child of mine that behaves badly!!! "
Except when it's been for work or family..mostly no.. I tell the parents... I've only said something to unaccompanied kids when they have been doing something dangerous.. ie stopped and told some kids playing chicken on a road.. or if actually causing me personal hassles.. |

" I'm ex mob and wont take anyone bringing crap to my doorstep. The police checked my military record and thought it was quite funny that the people involved had picked on me."
Jack Reacher!
That 6 year old girl won't be dropping her shit off at your doorstep anymore. The bulls are another matter. |

There was nothing wrong with the post, the ony reason why the original post was removed because it quoted another post that needed removing...in the meantime someone had cropped the post to quote just the bit about clipping round an ear.

Only twice in my life time. One was on the bus with a woman's two toddlers biting and smacking her baby in the pram while she looked on and talked on her phone - that one ended in a massive row.
And the other was two kids in my shop where one started punching and kicking his sister while their father stood next to them, browsing. She was screaming and crying as the brother carried on and he didn't even blink. I was only allowed to interveen when he started using stock to hit her which was fucking hard but I used the opportunity to give him a good talking to and then took them back to the father and said that if the boy carried on damaging stock, they would have to leave. I hated having to hold my tongue but without being able to control the parents, you know that no matter what you say to some people it will make no difference.
Their priorities are all over the place. |
