Maybe you are subconsciously starting with the least favourable food and leaving the best bit (the fish in this case) till last ? |

It's more OCD than ASC. OP: eat your food in alphabetical order.

OCD's are on the autistic spectrum. You could say you breath oxygen or you could say you breath air, oxygen is part of air just as OCD's are part of autism. |

How about eating each bit of food in an anti clockwise manner? Or have portions that don't touch, you know, build a fishfinger dam to stop the baked beans getting to the chips. |

Yes, I agree but along the spectrum my opinion is that the OPs food eating feature is more OCD. |

General differentiation is that people with OCD are aware of their behaviours being 'odd' whereas those on the ASC spectrum are not so aware....though there is a high level of co morbidity. |

OCD is common with Asperger's. Not sure OCD alone means someone's autistic though. Most individuals with Asperger's eventually become aware of their condition though. |

Just remember that it's not a problem unless it causes one. You must know that is irrational behaviour but on the other hand it doesn't seem to cause a problem so there's nothing you need to do about it. Trying to make you eat your food out of order or purposely smushing them together wouldn't really change you for the better and is more likely to cause you unnecessary distress. The only possible course of action is to have coping strategies in place for when it is not possible to eat by your self imposed rules. |

My darling ex was exactly the same. For reasons I can't go into here she'd go ballistic if anyone suggested she may be autistic |

The comments on this thread have been very interesting as I have a work colleague that must have even numbers of bottles on his desk, if he finishes a bottle, he then pours a bit from the other 5 (for example) so that he still has 6 bottles on his desk. He is very aware that he has OCD so does that mean he is just OCD or something else? |

Actually Asperger's goes undetected in many individuals and they can lead very normal and productive lives without realising there is a problem, if there is one. Autism and Asperger's are extremes of a scale that most of us will register on at some level. OCD's can't just be blamed on one or the other. There can be environmental, sociological and cultural issues than can develop OCD like behaviour.
I apologise for opening with such a flippant remark. I'm sure you're not mental, ok I retract that, I'm sure you're mental in a good way. As long as you're not pissing anyone off then eat how you like. |

Yeah I do this. Particularly with Sunday dinners. Veg, then mash (won't eat roast potatoes) then the meat at the end. I have to have foods in sections too. So if I'm having say a fry up I'll have my toast in one section, bacon next to that, then eggs and then beans. The bean juice can not under any circumstances touch tomato sauce. The tomato sauce has its own section to the right of the toast, beans to the left. And well, that's just an example. You should see me in restaurants. |

I'm really particular about bean juice. Th people beans must be in a separate ramekin. If the juice "contaminates" another section of the breakfast, I can't eat it. Beans and eggs touching is the worst |

Of course if Asperger's hasn't been diagnosed then officially it isn't there, is it? Most adults with a diagnosis have the mental capacity to be reflective of their condition however.
A good 'test' for the OP, would be how anxious or upset she became if she wasn't able to partake in her meal eating ritual. But if she's OK with it then it isn't even an issue, is it?
Very understandable to want to know if others have similar eating behaviours though. |

"I dont eat in a specific order, but I am very fussy when ordering food in restaurants, no sauce on, has to be on the side, nothing soggy, and I like a lot of things separately. "
exactly what i do ...cant have food messed up and need it separate or it is ruined and regardless of how hungry i am i simply cant touch it |

This is something of a revelation to me. I thought my sister in law was the only person who does the 'certain foods mustn't touch' to the point of having a plate split into 3 sections. |

I understand all this! I have to count my food to make sure I have the same amount of everything, so say I had fish fingers and I cut then into pieces of 4 I would then count my chips to make sure everything is equal, I never used to eat in public because of this. |

Have you got one of the plates with sections? It will save on the washing up of extra ramekins and plates.

It's a bit of a stretch from eating your peas first,to autism.
Even the straight guy who sucks cocks, has a less tentative link.
