Germany as a country didn't exist before 1871. Even today Germany is a federation of 16 different states all with varying degrees of devolved power. The history of rise of the Germanic states dominated by Prussia is a good read though. | |||

There isn't much "German" history before Hitler. Germany as a country didn't exist before 1871. Even today Germany is a federation of 16 different states all with varying degrees of devolved power.
