Jealousy, are you a Green Eye Monster?

Jump to: Newest in thread

Are you one of those who are easily jealous, and believe that people do not deserve their good fortunes in life, and that you have been dealt a bad hand by your maker?

I must admit that at times, like when a peer of mine with no obvious talent, who happened to be at the right place and the right time, and got promoted beyond his/her ability/capability, I would think he/she did not deserve his/her promotion.

I have thought about certain lottery winners did not deserve their good fortunes, mainly because they were low lives who have not contributed anything to the society except to cause missery of others.

I do not believe I am they type that are easily jealous, probably because I have learnt from a very young age, that favouritism will always exists and life is never fair, and there is no point in trying to compete with my siblings for our parents' affection. My dad would always favour my elder sister, and they would always let my little brother get away with anything because he is the youngest and a son.

That leaves me, the middle child, to trot along and mind my own business most of the time, and became the rebel I am today.

I may not have scaled as high as I could on the corporate food chain, however, in order to do that, I would have to bite my tongue and loose my integrity, and it is not something I am prepared to do.

I am where I am because of choices I have made myself since I turned 18 and be an adult.

I count my blessings every night before I go to bed, for my good health, for job and financial security, for friends that are supportive, for my mum and brother that care for me, pets that love me, and for a certain someone who thinks a world of me. I don't need anything to make me happier, as life is rosey enough for me as it is.

However, that does not stop me from buying lottery tickets or scratch cards, and hope I hit the jackpot one day! When I do, I shall share my winnings with my loved ones for certain!

No life isn't fair and you should have to work for everything. I have got jealous in the past but only a little as it puts people off and if it festers it screws you up.

I am usually happy to hear of someones good fortune, and would hope people would be happy for me if I had good fortune at some point.

everybody probably gets little jealous some time or annother, but i also realised at an early age.jealousy is an emotion that says more about who you are.than the person you are jealous of.

Life has given me quite a few hard knocks and made me feel low/down about myself.

I have never however begrudged anyone elses happiness.

Same as Pearl, have envied a tad when someone gets picked for a job over me when i felt i was better for the job.

But i smiled and supported that person and it wasnt long later that i WAS recognised and also got my promotion

Everything happens for a reason -= and life is here to test us - and i am sure if we keep being nice to people - when we need them most of them will return the favour.

I have found some superb friends in the most unlikeliest of places in the past just because of some kind words or a bit of support i gave them at some point.

One friend i was jealous of for a bit - cos she lost loads of weight and looked fab, got a better job and found herself a gorgeous fella.

It took me only a short while to realise - she had MADE herself loose wieght, she had LOOKED for the fabulous job and she had met the man of her dreams. I soon became very happy for her - and they are now married and saving for their house

Jealousy makes you miserable - where as laughter makes you well,

I may covet certain things people have and wish I could have the same,I don't think thats jealousy though, its more like oooooh thats lovely I would love it too

I think jealousy is a very destructive emotion and I don't like to see it in people

As for the lottery,It may sound weird but I would be scared to win a huge amount incase it change our lives too much and even though we don't have much we're happy and I like our life the way it is

To be able to make those around me that I love happier with a few more material things and not to have to worry about money would be the best thing about winning a vast amount of money

"..jealousy is an emotion that says more about who you are than the person you are jealous of."

Wise words. I agree completely.

I'm not the jealous type wither but that has come about with age & experience. As a young man I could get jealous quite easily but never over material things like money, position, success etc, usually it was over love. Nowadays, I'm much more mellowed and there's no way Siren & I could swing if either of us were prone to jealousy.

I do sometimes look at lottery winners, like that Carroll bloke, and think, "boy, what a wasted opportunity to have done something with his life," but I don't envy him his win, he bought a ticket and took his chances, like I did.

Meanwhile over in Pedants Corner:

Can I just clarify:

Jealousy is when you have something you don't want others to share

Envy is when someone else has something you don't

To be even more pedantic:

Envy and jealousy are very close in meaning. Envy denotes a longing to possess something awarded to or achieved by another: to feel envy when a friend inherits a fortune. Jealousy, on the other hand, denotes a feeling of resentment that another has gained something that one more rightfully deserves: to feel jealousy when a coworker receives a promotion.

Men are not disturbed by things, but by the view they take of them. Epictetus

(Although some translations suggest t should be "people are not disturbed...)

Thinly sliced, marinated in sweet sherry and soya sauce, and stir-fried with garlic, ginger and spring onions, yum!

I love rabbits, won't boil them though, as it would be a waste IMHO!
