Whine house being the correct description. Blufffer Cullum? Sheesh! That guys has done well in his "jazz" career considering his lack of ability - by his own admission he has about as much talent in his little finger than the rest of his whole body. Fair comment Jamie.
Anyway. Bizarrely. Of all people Ewan McGregor did a miles better version of Elton John's Your Song in the great film, Moulin Rouge. Elton's voice is shockingly bad even though his earlier stuff wasn't bad. |

Christy Moore Before the Deluge. He does a decent and very commendable Fairytale of New York too. Need to leave better as only being applicable to the former though |

Jimi Hendrix version of All along the watchtower was much better than Bob Dylans, and a lot of Jonny Cash's later albums had fantastic covers (Hurt/One/Personal Jesus/ etc) |

Melissa Etheridge and Joss Stone do mean covers of Janis Joplin Songs
I also love Ray Charles versions of Imagine, Song for you, and Ring of fire .... But then I'm biased a he's my hero.
I cannot pick a favourite for Little Wing though, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and Corrinne Bailey Rae all did awesome versions. |

Nicky Moore's version of Whiskey In The Jar is pretty impressive.
Van Halen's covers are usually several degrees better than the originals (Ice Cream Man is a classic example)
Gary Moore's cover of The Messiah Will Come Again (live at Montreux) is something every guitar player should hear...

Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover of Hendrix' Voodoo Chile, (yes Really,, and I could almost add his cover of "little Wing") And Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers cover of The Beatles "Got to get you into my Life", which McCartney actually produced! |

Slow Moving Millies ( John Lewis christmas advert) version of The Smiths “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want” is utterly sublime
As is Elle Gouldings version of The Waterboys “How long will I love you” 2013 Children in need single, which is an awesome cover.... |

In his later years Johnny Cash did a lot if cover versions and all were brilliant. But my two favourites are One (U2) and Hurt (Nine inch Nails)
Both are better than the originals in my opinion. |

Three classics there...
The two worst I've ever heard were both by Carlos Santana, he covered Van Halen's Dance The Night Away and AC/DC's Back In Black and murdered them both... |

Cover versions should try to bring some new interpretation or slant to the original. For me Human League's You've Lost That Loving Feeling & Tori Amos' Personal Jesus are fantastic.
Johnny Cash's covers of Hurt & First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (and again Personal Jesus) are heartbreaking. |
