Another job rejection. How do I keep positive?

I'm at my wit's end now. Been unemployed for almost 2 years and been actively seeking work. I keep having my applications rejected. If I get to inter_iew stage (which is rare) then I still seem to be unsucessful, even though I do my very best.
It's hard to keep positive and money is tight. Just wanted to vent. I get no government help as I'm not entitled to it. Been turned down for JSA and income support.
Just having a bit of a vent. |

I really feel your pain! It is really tough, the suggestions are just all the usual ones though. Keep positive, try hard and something will come up! |

I asked about my last app which I was inter_iewed for. Apparently my test score wasn't 'high enough'. |

This is the harsh reality sadly some folk say its easy to get work if you want it. I apply for tons of jobs but end of day companies either do not reply or simply someone else gets the job and good luck to them.
Saying that though as i am knocking on i want a job badly but would rather a young one got the chance simply because there it is no longer compulsory to retire so therefore how do the youth have a chance.
I have worked all my life bar last couple years and reality is older you are less chance being taken on long term. |

all the very best to you and keep trying, I know easier said but keep going.
do you ask for feedback from the inter_iews that you have had and been unsuccessful: really drive for feedback as that will help hone your inter_iewing skills.
most are capability based, have you research the capabilities that they probably will be looking for. Most are referenced within the advert or on their company website.
then build a capability diary with great examples of when you have displayed this capability within roles that you have had.
research the company and get to know their values, vision and strategic objectives ( again, a lot on the company website )
try calling in advance and asking to pop in and have a look around and chat to a few current employees.
do some voluntary work to keep you focused and it will be appreciated on your CV
does your CV sell you, it is what will get you to inter_iew stage.

This annoys me re tests and scores yes of course they are important to a degree but what happened to folk being inter_iewed one to one in conjunction with test scores so as to see the person just because a test score maybe lower than expected it may not affect your ability to do the actual job. |

Despite not being entitled to JS you could ask the Job Centre for help and assistance with being on a work experience scheme and might get a foot in the door that way ... other than that advice given above is good. Good Luck with your search though   |

I was even told that it was based on test scores. In my opinion it's a silly method of recruiting. Anybody could find the answers on the 'net. I did ace the one to one inter_iew and they were impressed, but it came down to a stupid test score in the end.

Have you had anyone look at your CV?
I recently looked at a friends and told him to amend it so now he is getting inter_iews.
My CV gets me inter_iews for 90% of the jobs I apply for, I fail at the inter_iew through lack of confidence that I now have. |

Look into what it is you would like to do
Do a bit of voluntary work
Even if its an hour or 2 per week
1) shows you are prepared to work and not sit on your arse
2) gives you experience
3) great networks
4) good for the soul
5) I any part time work comes up your in for a chance at it |

I'm going to have somebody look at it. Sadly I've mostly been in retail and a look of places look for experience. I was hoping to get out of retail.
I've been applying for voluntary work also, I have yet to hear about any. |

I have been doing 8 hours of voluntary work a month for the last 6 months, it's not a lot in hours as I also work full time.
But it is the best thing I have done for years, I spend time with people facing their biggest life's challenge
and we both get so much from it.

As peeps have said, have your CV double checked and then have another person have a look at it. Voluntary work to round out your experience. Can you practice inter_iews with someone? Maybe do some presentations to friends on a given topic? It all builds confidence. Good luck |

If you want to get out of retail what would you rather do?
There are always jobs available in the care sector whether it's private or nhs. Try if you haven't already joining Agencies, give them your CV and go from there, look on line everyday at jobs sites to see what new comes up. Don't give up hope and keep smiling, it's bloody hard out there!!! |
