"Closing next year, due to financial difficulty but only in England...will we miss it?
I've used it a few times and always had very good advice. " So have I, cannot help but think that it will put other services under even more pressure, like the Ambulance service. |

"I applied for a job there once. he place was hopeless, so I was quite pleased to tell them to stick it and then bimbling off.
Unorganised?"
Totally. I was there for an entire Monday for a group interview. However, the entire time spent being interview and assessed only lasted for about 1 hour out of about 7 hours of attendance. By half 4, I'd seen enough and told them what I though before flouncing out. |

A lot of peeps slag the NHS off in general but it is the best service in the world.
Ive used the help lines many times and have always been happy.
Another stab in the back from the goverment but it dose seem a bit strange that the service will only be scraped in England. |

"It's currently being replaced with the 111 service which is working a lot better in the trial areas." It was supposed to be up and running in April this year. Some parts of England will not have a service until 2014...someone got their sums wrong.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
The 111 roll out has been a shambles in many areas. It went to the lowest bidders and NHS Direct just hasn't been able to deliver at that cost rate. It pulled out of a couple of the areas it had won for 111 earlier this year and the financial writing was on the wall then.

"Only in England. Again. Like prescription charges and tuition fees.
Why do the English keep getting shafted?
Cos back in 2010 you elected the wrong government."
We didn't elect any government. We knew none of them could be trusted. |

Its always the same the government screwing up yet again'...all these cutbacks , low staff moral, staff under pressure leading to higher sickness levels, who suffers The patients, and the staff have a bigger workload this then can lead to dangerous practise.. I have seen it for myself.. Bring back the old nursing practice, staff took pride, matrons ruled the roost ,
Ohh I could go on and on about this subject ... |

which in some parts is now supplied by private companies to keep the system 'functioning', and some of the private ambo's who will attend when you hit 3 9's are not trained to paramedic level..

I have used NHS Direct many a time and found them really good, though have to say that a&e departments seemed to take a very dim view of anyone being sent there 'because nhs direct said I should', I think sometimes they would refer people to a&e to be on the safe side which is fair enough.
I think we have the 111 service in my area now but not 100% sure. There is also a walk in centre open 8-8 every day of the year just down the road which has proved handy in the past.
I for one think the NHS are brilliant. |
