Ok I desperately need motivation here, I stopped smoking today, it's proving difficult and afraid I may commit murder this evening or even worse I may go to the shops to buy cigs!
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, I really do need to do this x |

Think long(Er) term. Seriously. Your popularity an desirability will increase even more when people realise you're a non-smoker. Despite what others might say. It's a BIG plus.
Short term hell. Long term heaven! Well done so far, missus! X |

Buy a bag of Chupa Chups lollipops, they keep you occcupied for a bit and the sticks are good for chewing when your teeth start wiggling. Ask your doctor if there's an inhalor you could get. I used one when I got the restless feeling in my lungs when I quit last. It really relaxed me. Also if you dont jog, give it a go, especially now it's cooler. The quicker you get the crap out, you're conditioning yourself for change. Good luck. |

First evening is the worst- go out somewhere where you can't smoke, cinema or theatre or something, and get a pack of those nicotine tic-tac type sweets. Second evening is easier, third's a cinch. That's all it took me to give up after 30 years of smoking. You can do it... |

All good advice from the others. I'd go for the cinema that'll pass a couple of hours and get some boiled sweets to suck when you get a craving. Also try to keep your hands occupied
I've been smoke free for 3.5 years now give or take and it's soooo worth it!
Cessation nation is meant to be a good app it shows you how the harmful levels in your blood are dropping and also how much you save which is a big bonus!!! Good luck xx |

The nicotine withdrawal symptoms last 24-48 hrs. After that, it's your memory that takes over.... Oh I do bla bla and I have a fag after.
Just watch your routine / triggers. Have a look on the smokefree website. |

Thanks all for the help, I don't really want to start on the ecig as my motivation right now is the amount of money I'm wasting each month, it's ridiculous!
I have my patch in place, also have the inhaler, I'm just missing the popping outside and the feelings
I've heard the first night is the worst and I did expect this but it's difficult not to just give in x |

Take a tube of paper outside and just go through the motions?
Mind though, that's probably a bit like wanking when what you really need is sex. |

This will seem silly, but what really helped me when I was failing (i did fail eventually lol) was clipping a few incense sticks down to size, igniting them and pursing the stick end between my lips. The smoke did its job, the smell was lovely and it was relaxing. |

I know this.. One of the advisors said, "you're not missing smoking, you're missing taking yourself away." Go stand outside with a bag of crisps or something |

Okay one tip is "brain anchors" so it goes like this... If you smoke say cigarettes its roughly 15 draws per ciggy x that by 20 a day that's 300 hand to mouth movements a day x how ever many years. You have to retrain your brain not to do that unconscious movement and think about it. Replace that with something else, maybe hand to mouth movement or click your fingers. Hence why we gain weight after smoking..
Drink plenty of pineapple juice it has an anti craving element in it.
Just remember its only 48 hours for the nicotine to leave your body your doing really well keep going you can do it. |

New habits take around a month to establish.
Get through it a day at a time, or even an hour at a time if necessary. Put your ipod on and go for a walk. Have a bath and relax. The more you try not to think about it, the more you'll think about it, so find other things to do.
It'll get easier every day.
Work out how much you spend per hour on smoking then think about how many hours you need to resist for new shoes, new underwear, a holiday...
And think about the benefits to your skin, your teeth, your overall fitness.
Congratulations on quitting.Stick with it. You can do it! |

"Honestly thankyou so much everyone for the great advice, it's much needed and I'm taking it all in. I need to do this!
And Cheeky you are forgiven lol "
Tell yourself you want to do it, not that you need to. It seems a small difference but psychologically it's huge. |

If you have a smartphone get the Quit Now app and you can check it regularly to see how much you're saving

"Well done. Keep going.
Think of the money you're saving. Better still, pile it up on the kitchen table so you can actually SEE the money you now have to spend on other stuff."
Thankyou, it's so sad but I keep mentally totalling up how much I've saved so far, it's really helping x |

get help from stop smoking group it work , do it before you try to give up . mrs minxy as now been off them for 14 weeks and was a smoker for 30 years they were fab . dont do the e cigs they are worse than ordinary cigs and still contain all the cancer giving gems. Patches do work but they cost a bit , invest in a prescription budget pass ,cost £30 but really does pay .
Take a £10 . roll it up and set light to it , because thats what you do with your money every time you buy a pack . |
