I lived in Hong Kong for nearly 3 yrs about 25 yrs ago. Spitting in the street in fact spitting anywhere was normal. There were spit bins but often not used and it wasn't just the men who spat but woman and children. I will never forget this young lady dressed up to the nines in this posh open top car stopped at a traffic light and bringing up the biggest gob and spitting it straight out the window. I was so nearly sick. |

It's not the spitting that's a problem to me, it's where you do it and how. I absolutely despise people snorting and hacking.

In case you haven't read the rest of the thread, we're not talking about the casual ned-type spitting for no particular reason.
I'm talking about someone with a life limiting lung infection where the sputum being ejected can and will have an adverse effect on that person's health if swallowed.
Yes it's disgusting, but so is dying of a lung infection, so I ain't gonna stop doing it.

I don't enjoy it at all. I don't enjoy doing it. I don't enjoy having to do it but, as I said above, if the alternative is more time in a high dependency unit and even more time in hospital, I'll keep doing it.

Well this is my first post so will say this has made me feel sick...
Tuberculosis was virtually eradicated in the UK, but has over the past ten years or so seen an up surge in becoming a serious problem again.
When people spit if they are infected it's not the spit at that time that causes the spread of TB it's when it dries out and becomes airborne dried particles that get breathed in and infect the unsuspecting victim...

When i first came to this country, it was disgusting to see people spitting in the streets and it wasn't something i was used to, but now i do it too  . But I'm not a fan of spitting during sex/sexual acts. Some people might see it as disrespectful |

It is disgusting, makes me feel queasy. I'm not good with spit, if I see spit on the pavement I have to force myself to not think about it, as I start to heave.

I feel that you are making excuses too. Just because someone has a health issue, that does not mean that you can expel mucus any public place you like. Patients with irritable bowel syndrome don't crap all over the streets do they?

Spitting in the street is gross and illegal, but spitting during sex is pretty standard isn't it???? Spitting out spunk is completely unnacceptable- unless it's spat into someone else's mouth.
