government idea on fuel

I read with astonishment the governments idea to help folk with cost of fuel is to put signs up mainly on motorways giving comparisons of service station costs.
I assumed that most fuel users were gifted with eyesight and at least some common sense.
We all know motorway fuel is dearer its part of the rip off. All that will happen is the service stations will have the same price as very little between them as it is.
I am not a tory lover far from it but if they have the money to waste on signs etc then surely its an admittance there is bugger all they will do.
Whether you believe millibands freeze is a gimmick or not fact is government solution is to put up signs holy moly.
Windfall tax on the profits has to be an option surely as the profits made are quite obscene the same can be said of energy companies even ex pm john major favours this. |

Just try and count how many roadsigns you see on your way to/from work... how many are really needed??
Everywhere you go, bloody roadsigns....
sorry too many signs is one of my "pethates" there are too many pointless signs..
I have Never seen the Monster Triffid crossing a road, so whats the point of the the "heavy plant crossing" sign...
My fav seen on motorways - "sign not in use" wtf!!??
Even found a "Secret Nuclear Bunker" due to the helpful sign pointing it out!!! |

I have so little an interest in a freeze  I want a reduction.
Maybe I'm showing my age but getting stuck behind the lorry drivers in that protest was annoying, still it did the trick.
Now prices are higher then before, admitted I just fueled up at a supermarket for £1.23.9 per liter, which is comparatively a steal. But the public and industry went soft.
Had they stopped London dead, every time fuel tax increased, we'd still be paying a decent amount (In my personal opinion). |

would windfall taxes on these big companies really help you and me or would it just help swell the coffers of the government lets face it some of his policies are just amazing if your cols and cant afford to put the heating on solution were extra cloths if your fule is to expensive get the bus or the train ooooo no we cant from last time you were in and shut down the train and bus services that went anywhere near the place I work and on and on it goes but like good little sheep we have a moan and get on with it which of course is just what they hope for xxxxxxxxxxx |

signs should be up on the services anyway, stating the price of the fuel.
other service stations that arent on the motorway network do it.
personally, i have never used a motorway fuel station, and if everyone filled their car before their journey, then no one should have to, and this should bring about a price drop.
a law stating they have to be within 1p of the nearest petrol station would bring the prices down to the same as everywhere else. |

its all very well having your tory bash episode, and i hope you feel better after it, but lets not forget its after 13 years of labour the country is a whole lot worse off.
higher fuel costs (they tied the fuel increases in every budget, not the tories)
higher train fares
fewer bus services (even when things were going well bus services were being cut)
not everything is down to the tories you know |

how does that work?
its not like they are going to have a dozen signs all at once with the prices of the stations for the next 50 miles.
they will use the signs that are already there, and have provision for afixing the price for the station on that services.
its up to you to think its cheaper at the next.
as said, shouldnt use motorway services anyway |

why?
they were often the most expensive, because they didnt have hypermarkets and huge companies backing them so they could run the fuel at a minimal profit and make the money from the shopping. |

Ok,
So once Tescos has killed all the competition and has the hold on food and fuel prices.... do you think they will still offer low prices, do you think they will just roll over and accept what the government advice???
Or will they do as they please?
This country used to be a nation of shop owners....

You vote for your MP, not the government.
Remember when Major replaced Thatcher, and Brown replaced Blair ? When people started whinging "I never voted for Major", that's what they were told by the Tories.
Anyone who blathers on about "I never voted for a coalition" really needs to learn how our electoral system works. Or better still, not vote. |

Generally this is not what people expect when you say Democracy.
Remember, there was never an option to vote for a coalition.
This country is not as democratic as some people are led to believe.
I voted for a party, as the local MP is really irrelevant as far as Governing the country is concerned, I did not ever wish or want my vote to assist a bunch of spineless fools to have a "play" at pretending that they are capable of running a country, capable of ruining it maybe!! |

not the same thing at all.
when i spend £50 a week on bread, then i'll start using supermarkets only, but until that time i will continue to shop as i do now.
however, i will always seek out the cheapest fuel, and if thats to the detriment of petrol stations that hike prices and take more from my pocket than they should, then so be it |

And before there was no option to vote for a Labour government. But we got one. Feel free to interpret the rules as you wish. But don't complain if reality doesn't keep up.
Better get used to coalitions. At least this one was agreed with a published agenda and agreement. If the next election goes as we suspect it will, there will be no combination of parties that can have a 326 seat majority. And then you will be in the arena of vote-by-vote alliances and deals.
The irony is if we had got PR, it might have actually prevented this. All I know is from water cooler gossip, is that all 3 main parties have become the most toxic I can recall in 30 years of voting. |

Imagine explaining to some guys from Pakistan that - I did this with four guys from Karachi...
1) the local MP does not knock on your door asking if we wish to go to war - The pakistan guys thought that they did.
2) although there is more than one party to vote for, there is little point voting for any party other than Labour or Conservative.
3) That MP's have ALWAYs' been at the front of moral scandal and corruption and that it is as rife here as it is in Pakistan.
You see, much of the world views our democracy in a very different way to our experience of it. |

Or maybe most of it was started by the tories, and it's out of control and new systems are need, maybe new political parties.
If money is scarce locally, blame successive governments who have allowed tax loopholes to support millionaires and others in their tax evasion. More is lost in tax evasion each year than any of the cuts that have been imposed by this government. Of course, we know who funds this government too. Follow the money trail. |
