On the back of the the Nuclear power station thread, a few people mentioned the increase in personal use of power. I was bought up in the 70s, where we had very few electric sapping appliances and gadgets. I now have loads.

70s.

TV x 1

Stereo

Radio

Fridge freezer

Twin Tub washing machine

hoover

Several lamps

Now

TV x 2

Sky box

DVD player

washing machine

Fridge freezer

freezer

electric oven

Electric hob

Extractor fan

Microwave

computer x 2

kindles x 2

stereo

radio x 2

Bathroom extractors x 3

hoover

mobile phones x 2

What about you???

I now have two televisions and two Virgin boxes

A dishwasher (that I haven't used for three years and must sort out disposal)

A vacuum cleaner (not used that often)

Microwave

Boiler

Bathroom extractor

A steam mop (used more than the vacuum)

Electric toothbrush

Laptop

Tablet

Mobile Phones

Fairy lights

A big fan (only for the hottest days)

A DVD player (rarely used as I can never remember how it works)

Things I have now but had in the 70s:

Lamps

Iron

Washing machine

I think we had every house hold good I have now as a child, they are just more modern looking now

obviously we didn't have mobile phones and lap tops when I was a kid but I don't class them as house hold goods, things like TV, washer, hover etc we had

I can't really think of anything majorly different.

As a child we had our own room with a TV and games console.

My parents had a TV and video.

We had a washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge and freezer and dishwasher.

The only thing I have I didn't have is an air con unit in the bedroom but that is only a recent thing and then other technology being mobiles, routers, laptops.
