Half english and half irish, never been able to do a family tree on my dads side but when we found some old papers apparently his grandfather was a baker, found his childrens names and that was about it |

It difficult to know. Indentured slaves from India and Portuguese definitely but I can't really go further back than my grandparents.
Recent genetic issues have shown we have some Viking in us and my very Indian ancestor Grandmother had blue eyes.
When strange freckles appeared on me the dermatologist said "you appear to have inherited the worst of the races in you". Charming man.

I'm a scouser through and through. Suppose that explains why I have a burning desire to walk around town on a saturday afternoon with my rollers in my hair it's either that or the curly wig and tache. Calm down. |

Mixed ancestry from various parts in Europe here.
I would not call it pride at all...pride would be about something I have achieved.
If I was asked whether I try and pass on some of my continental cultural heritage to my children then that would be an unqualified yes, I do. |

Family tree goes back to the 1500's do far, sadly my ancestry is french.....but it has not manifested itself yet in the urge to take 3 hour lunch breaks and to go on strike
one famous ancestor who ended up in tower of London, managed to get out and flee to Europe where they were promptly arrested and thrown in the Vatican jail
am finding the family history fascinating |

actually i found out a quite interesting story about the village my dad grew up in in cyprus.
the name of the village means star in the water. sound beautiful right? well the story is that the village was going through a drought- as usual- and all the wells had dried up, some people had never even seen a well with water in it before. one day a man was walking past one of these wells and saw the moon and the stars shining out of the earth, being a simple villager from a simple village that not even your 3rd rate philosipher would deign to travel through he did what any normal peasant would do and shouted for all the other villagers to come and see, then word spread from one village to the next and people from all over cyprus came to see the stars under the earth...and were deservedly mocked by all the other villagers when the people came to see the well...and so becasue greeks love giving nicknames to things and are hardly that inventive the village became known as astromerides... yeah that's where i come from haha. |

Listening to Woman's Hour this morning there was an interview with Gaiutra Bahadur about her book, Coolie Woman. It may not be my direct ancestry but now there is at least a story about the indentured ancestry. Maybe I'll find out more about where my roots go.
