Thinking of joining the local gym (puregym in case people want to know). And wondering what are these places like? Should I buy a track suit? Etc etc.
My impression of gyms are from 80s movies. Arnie Swaznigger |

If you're going to a commercial 'fitness' gym then expect to meet people of all ages, lots of fitness machines, cardio equipment, small dumbbells etc, its a good sort of gym to start in if you're new to training.
The Schwartzenegger type gyms you're thinking of are typically known as 'weights/bodybuilding' gyms and will typically have far fewer machines, lots and LOTS more free weights, barbells etc, bench presses, power racks, basically a far more old school approach to training, and will have a predominantly male clientele - though you'll often find a handful of AMAZING looking women in these sorts of gyms. |
