I'm thinking of doing this. Any tips ?
I find I feel rather down sometimes after I have a drink. Plus I eat loads more than I should and I get crap hangovers.
I like a drink but I think I'm better off without it now. Any advice on how to keep away from that " one glass that leads to more ? |

If you are used to drinking a regular amount each day then its going to be hard. I would advise cutting down considerably until you can wean yourself away from it.
Orvspeak to your gp if your worried and they can help |

I think it is one of those, everything in moderation situations.
Willpower is key and set yourself limits and stick to them.
Say for eg I am not drinking during the week or certain days - and make sure you have no booze in the house. |

Alcohol is a depressent,
If you drink at home, remove it don t have any in the house,
if its a social (Pub/club) you drink in do something else, join a gym exercise, or another social activity,

Find a reason you give up. Then keep reminding you self of it. For me the hard part is having just the one or two.
I gave as I was working in pub and driving all the time so best not to have any at all. Now a day I almost never drink. You do not have to have a drink to have a good time when you go out. xx

I used to drink quite a lot and i've given up completely (not forever, just for now).
First few weeks was not hard, but not as easy as it is now. I don't think twice about it. It's been 3 months for me next week.

The only good way is not to start until you've been pissed or merry again, record how much you d*unk and reduce by a drink or a couple of units each time or per week over x amount of weeks
Only thing that worked for me

If you really want to give something up then you need to find something to replace it such as exercise
And bags of haribo sweets as alcohol is full of sugar and you'll crave sweet things for a couple of weeks |

Hello 2innotts,
"and I get crap hangovers."
That is often due to drinking the wrong drinks, some drinks are far worse than others for giving a bad hangover. Drink real ale for instance rather than keg beer.
If you want to know more read a book called The Art of Positive Drinking, it explains exactly what to avoid and why. Mostly to do with spirits and the mixers (which can be the killer).

Work out how much you spend on booze, take that money and save it somewhere, and by the end of the year you'll have a nice bit of cash.
*depending on how much you spend per week* |

I've noticed this when I've had days off drinking. You think it's a short term effect?
Anyway, sitting here with cup of tea very happy
I think the tip about not drinking in the house is a really good one.
Thanks all. |
