What's your favourite 80's rock band/song?
I'm still lovin Crazy Crazy Nights by Kiss
Also just made a new backing track, so if anyone's a fan of the cheesy retro stuff, inbox me for a link. |

Van Halen for me. I play in a tribute band, I have several Eddie signature guitars and amps and have their logo tattoo'd on my calf.
I'm a bit of a fanboy...lol |

Shame on me lol Van Halen I absolutely fucking adore. Both Diamond Dave and Sammy Hagar eras. Gary Cherone had a good go but the songs were depressing. |

I'm a huge DLR fan. Hagar was a better singer but he wasn't quite on the same level, showmanship wise as Roth. Cherone's effort was ok, I think Eddie was to blame for much of that records flaws, he wanted someone to sing like a mix of the previous two.
Thank dog Roth's back though \m/ |

Yeah Eddie went off the deep end after the cancer. I agree, Hagar was also a better writer, but he just didn't have that agility or showmanship like Roth did.
And if you see him now fronting Chickenfoot, he's trying to hide the huskiness around his waist but his fat neck gives him up lol still a great singer and age has been kinder to him than most, but he's starting to look like a rock redhead Colonel Sanders |

Scary isn't it!
Did you know he had no intention of being a singer, he was set to be a boxer. It was Elvis that talked him into joining a band!
He had his own tequila company (Cabo Wabo), he sold it to Campari a couple of years ago for $106,000,000! He's now started making rum. |

Couple of ones not mentioned:
Warrant 'Cherry Pie'
Alice Cooper 'Poison'
Motley Crue 'Kickstart My Heart'
Not sure GnR classify as hair metal as they helped to kill it.
And a track with the manliest, look at my balls vocal: Whitesnake 'Still Of The Night'. |

I knew about the boxing and tequila. He's now spending it cheap in Mexico. Funny, without all of the plastic surgery, he's been totally bypassed by his age.
Still looks like a cross between Chad Kroeger and Colonel Sanders tho lol |

Metallica - Master of Puppets tour, supported by Anthrax
Maiden - Number of the Beast tour
Mötley Crüe - Shout at the Devil tour (well, it was a one off show at The Dominion Theatre in London)

Guns N Roses - Appetite tour, supported by Faster Pussycat
Slayer - Reign in Blood tour
That was the first tours I saw all of the above on! |

The best rock album of the 80's was Nothing's Shocking by Janes Addiction. They could release that album tomorrow and it would still sound timeless.
Saw them at Burberry's in Birmingham (don't look for it; it's not there anymore), supported by the dreadful Birdland, from Coventry. Must have been all of 50 people in there. Two or three years later they invented Lolapalooza and were playing to tens of thousands of people every night. |

Cheesy, got to be whitesnake
Go onto YouTube and check the pretty boy version (1987) against the ageing Brit journey men version (cozy Powell, mickie moody, Jon lord ...)
I prefer the pretty boy version, much more dynamics and Adrians solo is cool. But if memory servs me right musicians in the video played on the song
Got to love those snare drums in the hair bands, sounding like a cannonball being fired in a canyon
(reverse talkback noise gate indeed)
I digress ..
For non cheesy... Got to be GnR.. (apart from patience .. Thought at the time it was a cool song, checked it out last week.. Nope boring D D sus4 throwaway) |

That solo was the only thing Vandenberg played on the album, John Sykes played the rest of the guitars on the album, Don Airey played keyboards, Neil Murray played bass and Aynsley Dunbar played drums...like I said, another bunch of journeymen!
The band of pretty boys (though I don't think Tommy Aldridge ever qualified as a pretty boy) was put together specifically for the 'Still of the Night' video.
Dann Huff (genius guitarist and producer of US Country music's A List these days) played on the US 'radio mix' of 'Here I Go Again'.

Im glad some one likes them as much as me ive seen them 5 times live and met gilmour mason & wright at a charity event my freinds dad organised in 1994 such down to earth heros."
Saw them in 1994. It was epic. You are lucky to have met them. Too cool. |

"Cheesy, got to be whitesnake
Go onto YouTube and check the pretty boy version (1987) against the ageing Brit journey men version (cozy Powell, mickie moody, Jon lord ...)
I prefer the pretty boy version, much more dynamics and Adrians solo is cool. But if memory servs me right musicians in the video played on the song.
"
Dan Huff....now his band Giant did a great 80's rock cd....and the track...(I'll See You) In My Dreams was an awesome song. |
