I watched this brilliant film yesterday. On chatting to others afterwards I found half the audience thought it was dreadful, and the other half, like me thought it was amazing. For those in the audience that had a sex addiction, I thought maybe it was uncomfortably close to home, which is why many didn't like it. I would like to recommend the film but am wondering why, even on a site such as this, contributors often find it difficult to admit they have a problem (if they do), or to talk seriously about it. (I noticed on the last thread about this subject most answers were humorous in tone)

I thought it was a really good film but it is being advertised as a comedy and it's so much more than that. The audience in the cinema that I went to seemed a bit uncomfortable at some scenes.

How does it compare to "Shame" as an exploration of sex addiction?

Having watched both Shame and Thanks for sharing, Shame is a depressing commentary on the nature of sex addiction, useful for those who aren't but just telling those who are what they already know, also a bit too much porn which wasn't really necessary for the story. Thanks for sharing was an upbeat and comic reflection on recovery from sex addiction, with hope for the future for the addicts concerned.
