Tried them once a number of years ago.
Accepted everything other than the Vodka.
Called the young girl over who asked me for "ID"
Told her I didnt have any on me,so she said I couldnt have the Vodka.
Left everything in place and walked out.
NEVER been in any of their shops since. |

Self Scanners get on my fucking tits.
Check outs get on my fucking tits.
Why do they always go wrong no matter which queue I join?
Ive got the reverse of the magic touch; if there is such a thing.
Stay away from me in the supermarket, Im cursed.
Can't they do what sat nav manufacturers have - change the voice to bart simpson or something, 'please place the item in the bagging area'. |

I would always choose to use a self scanner, much quicker - unless you need approval at the end. The better ones are ones were you take a scanner round with you. |

I don't use them simply because potentially they're doing someone out of a job. The more popular they become, the less staff they will employ. Then the greedy supermarkets make even more profit.
Of course they con the general public into thinking they're doing us all a big favour, they are without a doubt very cunning and clever. |

have tried to take the same stand, however it doesnt always work.
with aldi and lidl, as a delivery driver, you are expected to tip your own wagon, as they dont employ enough warehouse staff, so its a toss up between taking a stand to try and get someone else a job, and losing your own, or just sucking it up and doing it yourself.
self service, its ok, as long as they work properly.
find the scales are sometimes a little out so you need the mong in a t shirt looking over your shoulder so they can reset the machine every time you fuck it up"
Charming. Just hope this "mong" isn't in your self scan area when you next need assistance! lol |

Self scan is easy if you know what you are doing and, unfortunately, so many shoppers don't get it. Once it is explained exactly how it works, then things go well. At least that's been my experience since I started working in that area at the beginning of the year. But I do understand people's frustrations 100%. |

"I hate them. when ever I try to use them something goes wrong and I end up having to call for help........ waste of time for me I am afraid lol "
This is what I hate. Why complain you don't like them whilst you use them. If you don't like them. Don't use them. Simple really. I happen to agree with you though and I never use them as a customer. |

Is it easy. Yes it is, but why is it called self scans when the colleagues do it for you and then there's a hold up as other customers may need an authorisation for something or a price check, etc. Plus they cost people jobs too. In the long run staff don't get replaced when they leave because of them and in the short term. Overtime has practically disappeared so part timers can't look for extra cash as nearly all places who employ won't take anyone on who works for anybody else. Despite the fact they only offer part time hours . |

More people should be like you. Should start up a online petition/group or something. |

You shouldn't have to wait 10 minutes. Most any of my customers have to wait is a couple of minutes because I have 10 machines to monitor. At peak times, I feel as though I need to be on roller skates to get back and forward quickly enough! |

"Hate them - and they have been shown to not actually make it faster for the customer. Just cheaper for the company as one person can man 8 checkouts."
Us its 10 and people say its great for a few items. Maybe that is right. However these new self scan tills are designed for weekly shops and the more you use them. Even if its for a few items. Head office assume they are popular and will get more of them in. Its all target based. |

Absolutely hate the stupid 'self-service' points. To the point that I no longer shop at places that have the damned things. If the companies concerned can't be bothered to keep checkouts staffed properly, then I can't be bothered to spend my money there. I hope that these companies will eventually realise the error of their ways and reverse this most stupid of ideas, though i'm not holding my breath.
Its only if enough people take the same stance will anything change. Rod. |

All companies have them sadly and by boycotting the store. Staff will just be sent home unpaid. You are just best off. Refusing to use them no matter what, getting everyone you know to follow suit and shop as you normally would. |

I'll use them for a basket full but not a trolley full as it's too much faffing. I don't mind them, until you get the unexpected items but I think I pretty much have them sussed now because it rarely happens to me now |

The ones with conveyor belts are designed for a weekly shop, by using your basket there. You saying you like that till. So the company will get more of them. |

"Funniest thing is watching the faces of the shoppers lining up to use them - they are like " fuck this about to go horribly wrong " "
Fun starts Christmas time. When they use them with no assistance and they will get even more customers because the customers behind them will be telling them to hurry up, lol. |

I was told the exact same thing and many of us know and have realised that's just head office trying to brainwash their colleagues with false information.
If a store has 4 normal checkouts, which is then replaced by 8 self scan checkouts and one person is manning them. That's taking away the jobs/hours of 3 other colleagues who were there in the first place. The majority of customers don't like them and the only members of staff that like them are people who work on them. Every colleague with an ounce of sense or someone who isn't biased can see what the company is trying to achieve. Same outcome with less workers. Less workers means bigger bonuses for mangers and/or people in the head office. |

"They should be blown up...invention of Satan...especially those in Morrisons! "
My local Morrisons have 2 either side.Instead of baskets and will never replace the other tills as there clearly isn't room for it. Dot know what your store is like? However tescos tried introducing ones with belts and customers kicked up a stink and since then. They just have more self scans for baskets. Normal shops go to a normal till. The asda stores have a thing called "hybrids" which are newer versions of self scans and no matter what people say. The proof is there. They are putting people out of work and staff or customers don't like them and as they are the only ones open in the morning. Our regulators are either coming in later or dont bother coming at all. |

They are called hybrids. Avoid them like the plague. Whatever you think of self scans. These are a lot worse |

I rather out it through a normal till as that what cashiers are paid to do. If there was some discount for doing it yourself then it would be a different matter. Changing for bags is unfair too if you how your own |

"I go to the supermarket most days. Its my corner shop. I work at home and some days the checkout person is the only face i speak to. Sad i know. "
How can a retailer/supermarket offer a great service. If the colleague refuses to serve you and you have to serve yourself? Also how can it be called a self scan when sometimes the colleagues put through the staff for you, which keeps other customers waiting. |

"I alwaz use them. Quick and easy, and no queues! Im alwaz in a rush so no time to wait "
Wait until staff are replaced by them and then see the queues billed up and how easy they are to use. Whilst people are getting flustered and others telling them to hurry up. |

They are an interim measure till the r/f chip technology is perfected and inbuilt into packaging. For me its all getting away from the personal touch, people will loose jobs and it is a temptation for would be thief's to name but a few. I really try and avoid them if I can then if there is a mistake with things its not one I have caused.

In an emergency when you have to use them. Avoid the hybrids (self scans with belts) as they are tested every week and if they are seen to be popular. More will arrive. No matter of its only one item put through per customer. |

"Can't stand the bloody things, but it also annoys the hell out of me when checkout staff don't recognise certain types of fruit or veg and charge the wrong price "
Nothing to do with not recognising it, lol. All loose fruit and veg have a 3 or 4 digit number code and 99% of the ones listed on the product is wrong. Most staff dont know the number that's all, which is wrong as staff members have to know all the popular ones before they go on there. If they don't. It shows they haven't been trained fully. |
