I have seen a number of threads about these things and it got me thinking.

How stubborn are you when it comes to asking for help? When does "pride" go out the window just to get some help. Whether its poverty or going to the doctors? For those who are stubborn in these areas. What would it take for you to ask for help as some people are too "proud/stubborn" to do anything about their problem and would rather suffer than ask for help.

Same goes for money. Would you hide how deep in financial crises you are and ask for help. Maybe go to these food banks or would you hide that fact too or just not even go?

Was offered a chance to go to the food bank by my GP.

After everything that has been said about "Benefit Scroungers" decided I would rather go hungry than face more shame and people despising me for being ill....

Funny how quickly you get used to one meal a day.

Missing that is no big deal after a while.

EAT or HEAT is a real decision for some of us, and I aint having the grand kids being cold in our house.

I've always been the one that people came to for help and always given what I could. Would ask for help? Proberbly not and no I wouldn't go to a food bank either. I'm single and only have myself to feed. I think they're more for familys who struggle to feed their kids x

That's what all the papers claim. However food will always be my priority as you can always wrap up if you're cold. Can't starve yourself otherwise you will get really ill.

It isnt just a claim !!!!

Its an actual reality.

Becoming possibly ill is in the future, today its bloody freezing and dying of hypothermia is just as effective as malnutrition.

That's the age where everything is being developed. Mess that up and chances are their adult life may suffer. Mentally as well as physically.

Well claim wasn't the right word. Sometimes papers over exaggerated on things. So thought a few people might have that problem, but not a lot. After seeing prices on stuff now though. That probably is the case. It can be stopped though. Just requires many people standing up to the big firms.

When i worked with the elderly, we lost 3 pensioners in one night due to hyperthermia.(winter obviously)

It was a weekend and they had not had the heating on due to being scared of the cost..

There are also some that eat so little and add that to no heat.....not a good outcome.

It will kepp happening, unfortunately

Most people on benefits have pre-payment meters.

If your down to your last £5 and still have 7 days till pay day,you have to decide, Gas,Electric or some Cup-a-Soups.

Cant cook without Gas,cant see or put the kettle on without Electric.

The food is now very low on the options list.

Wouldn't people who can't afford food, electricity or gas give up their broadband connection ??

Of course, cut them off from the rest of the world and stop anyone feeling guilty that just died and nobody knew.

Maybe we should open up some of the concentration camps and shove them in there

Just my opinion - I just think it's like when you see on the soaps no-one has a job or any money but they can somehow still afford to go to the pub and have a pint? and then moan that they can't afford to put food on the table

It is entirely fictional and has no resemblance to real life.

Robbie I don't mean to judge, but tour familiar with my stance on thus subject and the way I react to people claiming to be destitute.

No you claim on here you have been offered help from food bank so you must if been decided as needing help, so why would you not take it? If I needed anything I would take it if I believe do deserved it.

But that aside you come across as this person who is so destitute, that you believe your about to make yourself so seriously ill and all because lack of money, firstly you have a picture of your self dressed in what looks like expensive underware, so like lots on here you would rather spend well needed money on crap than heat or eat.

Also your only 50 odd so in my book that don't make you a pensioner, so your either looking for work, or on the sick. And if it's the later then it's a known fact that you are quite comfortable.

Please don't come back or anyone else jump on me fir this opinion, as you have choose to put your life story on here and in my opinion looking for the sympathy vote.

Again this is not me judging, this is my opinion on what I see. Just seems that so many on this site always make out there destitute, and when you look on there profile there site supporter or pics with expensive things on or around d them. But same old "I bought them before I was hard up"

I remember about 15 years ago, I was essentially homeless and it was winter in Scotland. I suddenly realised that if I just walked up to a copper and smacked him in the face I would be warm and have a couple of meals. Sure I would be in a cell, but at least I'd be alive.

I found myself in a church instead, and although I didn't turn to god, I did take their generosity.

Sometimes there are no real options - but - there are always some.

Your health is more important than your pride and not eating will hamper your recovery.

If you still feel bad about the food bank, remind yourself it was your doctor's idea. That almost makes it a prescription medicine.

No one with an ounce of compassion or humanity will despise you for going to a food bank. People who have had to use such services often eventually pay the favour back by contributing themselves in some was in the future, you could promise yourself that once you're on your feet you could do that. Good luck

My stubborn pride has stopped me claiming a blue badge and whatever benefit you get for disability so far.

We (the family) eat well and bills are paid. It's a no frills existance. But the stigma of being a third rate scrounger really takes it toll.

Maybe silly, but you'll be surprised how many people think that if they can cope. They won't bother wasting anybodies time and wasting the minimal resources we already have.

So we live in a country where a large number of people NEED a blue badge yet don't claim one and a large number of people who aren't entitled to one, display someone else's (or a fake).

That about it?

Not what I was getting at. Yes there are a small minority who do it and they do get heavily fined. But my point was some people just think if I can manage to do it. Why waste other people's time as there's a lot more people worse off and they could do with the extra help more than them.

That's not my experience.

Up here, lots of people display badges they're not entitled to and hardly anyone is challenged, far less fined.

It's no excuse but with parking at £4-5 an hour, it's perhaps understandable what folk break the law like this.
