It's on!
I'm going to see Luc Besson's 'Leon' in Manchester in a week or so.
Love that film. Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, Natalie Portman and Danny Aiello are all brilliant and they don't do storylines like that in action films anymore. |

Did any of you know that the intended version saw Leon actually nearly having a relationship with Natalie Portman's character? Unsurprisingly, it was advised they not go with that idea. But there's still the uncomfortable scene where she tells the hotel clerk that specific little lie that gets them kicked out onto the street. French cutting edge for you!

"Any others you are going to see titty? "
Hehehehe no but I may be going to Farmageddon to laugh at people who shit themselves too easily.
If I had the money, I'd go to the FACT in Liverpool quite a bit. They have some good films on and you can have a beer there too |

"Triffic film , fabulous actors.
And it has my one favourite Sting song (only because it reminds me of the film lol)"
Have you seen 22 Bullets with Jean Reno, I think it was called L'immortal originally. Almost as good as Leon. |

I dont think so but I'll look it up. I watched Les Visiteurs a few times and just marvelled at how unforgiving it was as a comedy. They weren't trying to be famous back then lol |

I'm going to be obtuse here and say that Leon must be one of the most over-rated films in history, alongside the dreary dim-witted Shawshank. It has an interesting premise, which it fails to explore - no more or less than a generic action flick only slightly risen from the mire by the undeveloped character of the girl. Huge disappointment for me - dull and obvious.

Wow you hit the nail on the head. You were as obtuse as you said you were going to be.
Leon is far from dull, in fact, with characters that are insanely untypical, tragic and far from stereotypical (unless you forget that it has been over 20 years since every other film director tried to be just like Luc Besson).
Leon himself seems like a typical action movie hitman until you realise that to counter the fact he doesnt fear death, he is simple-minded and fears life until Matilda turns it all around and makes him want to live, which becomes part of the tragedy.
Gary Oldman's Stansfield is on a constant high of drugs, embezzlement and murder and has absolutely no regard for the fact that he may ever be caught because New York is so crime riddled that they are left to do as they please.
Matilda herself has grown up with a drug dealer for a father and a whore for a mother and despite the fact that she hates her life, when it's taken away from her, she becomes as cold as her parents always were and part of her even comes close to the sexually manipulative personality that her mother and sister were.
You see an action movie, through and through. What it is in fact is a story about how opportunity causes people to become everything that was ever corrupt in their lives, and that is how they become what they hate to acquire what they love.
But tell me how you found it obvious?! |

Well, its nice that you're so bang on message
A 50-year-old illiterate milk-drinking French hit-man suddenly finds it in his hardened heart to take in an incredibly smart daughter of a drug-addled prostitute (who somehow has a place in a posh private school). Her inane sweetness (if you can decipher it through Portman's rigid performance) creeps its way into his otherwise bizarre life, and makes him a better person .
All the while, they are pursued by the most preposterous policeman, methodly overspun by Oldman until it makes your eyes hurt.
Like I say, a vaguely interesting premise, wayward child pinched almost directly from Tatum O'Neil in Paper Moon, over-Hollywooded into an obvious and obnoxious action flick. Far from original, and very over-played.
Just my opinion
