Depends on your age I think. Young people are taught metric and when the older generations die out so will the imperial system. Still can't get my head round 20 degrees being hot though.70 seems a lot warmer. |

They are the same effectively as the SI standard for liquid volume is the litre and millilitres and centilitres are simply fractions of this, one thousandth and onehundredth respectively |

but the point is... buy a bottle of something, and some label it in ml and some in cl, even though the bottle sizes are the same |

That's interesting actually. I'd have expressed it as around 910mm or 0.91m, i'd never have used cm at all. So, multiple ways of expression in the metric world.
Can anyone honestly say they've ever described a woman as "having a yard of tits?" |

I`m also in that strange transition state too! I have to use metric a lot when I`m at w*rk and when I`m doing DIY I tend to use metric if I need to find the centre of something but otherwise I still use Imperial. |

The best i've ever worked with (sort of) was the guy who asked what a certain length was, say 1115mm. We'd open his tape, place his thumb and finger there and off he'd go. |

The craziest of the lot though, would have to be aviation fuel;

Imperial Gallons
How confusing is that - when you're fueling up to fly fro A to reach B!!
& of course its been the reason for many air

aha.. but the flaw in this idea is that while waiting for the old folk to die... those that are younger and still using the old methods are getting older.
so the old folk never die out ..... i think lol |

We could try it the way they did in Eire.
Buses and trucks changed sides one Sunday, to see if it would work, and cars, vans and everything else the following Sunday. |

OK, when did you last read on here that anyone has shed/wants to shed a few kg's?
Hardly ever, virtually always stated as lbs/stones. I dare say, even those who are "metrified" do it.
Mind you 10lb sounds more impressive than 4.2 kilos. |

"What's your preference?

I can work easily in either inches or cm and it's often fairly random which I choose. For, say, dressmaking it would always be metric. I think of and quote people's heights in imperial. If I need to measure a room I could use either. I can convert between the two easily.
I can work in grams/ounces or stones/lbs/kg. I can roughly convert between the two in my head. I usually think of people's weight in imperial. I can use either for cooking.
For temperatures I am ok with centigrade or the Kelvin scale. I don't understand Fahrenheit at all. |

I remember an argument on tv a while ago between a pro metric guy and pro imperial guy.
In mid argument the pro imperial guy asked the other how tall he was and the metric bloke answered without thinking "five foot ten "
And that was that .
What I don't understand is why the usage of mm for barrier heights , it's not as though we also use fraction of inches for the same . |

"What's your preference?

Length in inches (if talking to someone over 40 years old)
Weight in grammes, as you can't use Avagadros number when your dealing in ounces.
Temperature is in Centigrade for winter and Fahrenheit for the summer. That way it sounds colder in the winter and hotter in the summer.

body weight has to be in stones and pounds. but food weight has to be grams or kg
cock size - inches
distance - miles
but other sizes like the length of a pipe for example has to be meters
we use both

I work in both fairly happily(Engineering).
John said "Why using the imperial system when the metric is so easy and logical???"
Up to a point but it is easier to make a significant mistake calculating say volume in metric than Imperial.

I prefer imperial, it means more to me. If someone were to say they weighed 70kg, then I'd have to think about just how much they weigh. But if they said 12 stone 4, then it is more obvious to me.
Last week a waitress asked me what I'd like to drink. Answer, a pint of . Her response, is that large or small?

That's true. You're more likely to try to do a metric sum in your head and get the decimal point in the wrong place whereas in Imperial you're likely to use a machine to multiply by 16, 14 and so on.
Croupiers will continue to multiply by 17 in their heads. |
