"So I am becoming a boring sod some weekends and the nights are drawing in...so I have decided to embark on the journey of making things...
So I need ideas on pickles and chutneys "
I just saw James Martin make rhubarb chutney this morning and it looked lovely. |

My late Mother's apple chutney recipe is
1lb apples
½ lb raisins
½ lb sugar
½ pint vinegar
2 teaspoons ginger
1 onion
½ teaspoon peppercorns
½ teaspoon salt
Chop apples and onions finely and simmer the whole lot for 1 hour.
that's where it stops. I dunno what you do after that, 'cept stick it in sterilised jars.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstalls Glutney is easy and always turns out well. I made my own piccalilli once and it was lovely. I've also done pickled onions (far too strong!), and different flavoured pickled eggs. Yum! |

...if you have king prawns and mussels in your house with an addition of broccoli and carrots etc. You can make a nice meal out of it. Add in some brown rice and green beans. With some mixed pickle from a jar and some chilli.
It is lush.
Anyone need a cook soon? I can only make that and lasagne and shephards pie and some cake though.
