I'm glad I live where I won't get arrested for posting pictures of me kissing someone, however, I'm aware that some countries have strict modesty laws (whether I agree with them or not) and will make sure when I visit them (going to Morocco for Xmas) I respect local laws. Probably some folk might think that a country where a homeowner could be arrested for defending their house from thieves and potentially be prosecuted may not be the ideal example of perfect law |

Oh I'm all for respecting people's laws but I think perhaps that is a little extreme.As for protecting your home...I think you shouldf be able to defend it without any possible prosecution.

my theory is ANYONE who enters my home without invite(especially at sillyOclock hours), may essentially want to cause me harm...so they can take what I give them...simple as |

This sentiment is similar to what my first thought was upon reading the OP's post.
It seems the irony of people on here criticising 'silly' modesty laws, most of whom are too afraid to openly show face pics because the lack of social acceptance of swinging in our 'free western society' drives them to feel the need to try and protect their privacy, is lost.
There might be a difference of degrees, but the issue is the still the same. |

So, the bankers gamble all our money away then we have to pay to fill the void & go into recession, lose jobs, homes, livelihoods, have family break-ups, & in some cases, because of NHS cuts inevitably, it costs our lives, but it's okay because none of these bankers are jailed, they keep their outrageous salaries & bonuses, & if you earn more than 150k, you get to pay 5% less tax - on top of what you avoided paying in the first place!!!

Twice a year we challenge certain laws by joining a thousand or so naked people and ride around London and Brighton .
There, stick that in your pipe and smoke it, whilst being careful of smoking laws , my subservient friend. |

Certain laws in a certain context - comfortable that you won't be arrested and in numbers. Don't assume I don't challenge the law or practice - I just choose different methods. |

I have been laid here mulling over this conversation and it occurred to me that it's a bit odd being castigated on here of all places for admiring people who push boundaries or break laws that deny freedom of expression or will and everyone else here is chatting about dogging, bi and homosexuality and swinging ( a form of adultery ).
Is some less enlightened societies you would at least find yourself and your co-conspirator in jeopardy or basically dead .
So a big up for everyone who got us this privilidge , as they say , "you don't miss what you have got until it has gone " |

Actually it is to young teenagers and it is a juvenile court. I have no idea of the likely punishment but suspect that it will be nothing overly shocking.
I have been to Morocco several times and traveled there extensively - it is an amazing country with some of the friendliest people I have ever met. It is also incredibly safe. Crime rates are incredibly low and crime against tourists is virtually unheard of. I have wondered way of the tourist trail and been in what are some less than desirable suburbs and never felt in danger. It is also arguably the most progressive Islamic country in the world. There are bars, alcohol is on sale and if you know where to look you can even find gay bars. But that said away from the main tourist towns it is still very traditional, it is easier to introduce a partner as your wife as people are genuinely confused that people aren't married and public displays of affection beyond holding hands will certainly offend the older members of society.

there are no boundaries in the world, I can visit/live anywhere I want..it might be illegal yes, but it does not mean I'm wishing people harm does it?
theres alot of 'uninvited' people indigenous to this country quite willingly taking money from the system and actually have no problem admitting they would not ever ever EVER work |

I have, quite a few times and can see both sides of the story.
If I was talking about Casablanca I would agree with the first poster. I always felt safe and liked the (by North African standards) the cosmopolitan feel of the place, although "Ricks Bar" at the Hilton (if I remember rightly) hotel was a bit of a let down.
Tangier was a totally different place, especially in the old Kasbah. Spent a whole day running the gauntlet of aggressive beggars, what seemed like five hundred potential tour guides, and an army of young kids trying to flog us handbags, non of which would ever take NO for an answer. I have to admit though that in both places we never heard of anybody getting robbed. |

Have you ever been there?o I haven't but if you read the British Govt website and the American Govt website tourist websites that is the advice they give.I think they might just have a better idea than 2 tourists' experience don't you?

It wasn't so long ago that being homosexual was illegal in this country.
Some laws are intrusive into peoples personal lives.
Obviously people are not suggesting breaking the rules/laws on murder etc etc but some laws do need to be, and should be, challenged. |

I have been to Morocco several times and traveled there extensively - it is an amazing country with some of the friendliest people I have ever met. It is also incredibly safe. Crime rates are incredibly low and crime against tourists is virtually unheard of. I have wondered way of the tourist trail and been in what are some less than desirable suburbs and never felt in danger. It is also arguably the most progressive Islamic country in the world. There are bars, alcohol is on sale and if you know where to look you can even find gay bars. But that said away from the main tourist towns it is still very traditional, it is easier to introduce a partner as your wife as people are genuinely confused that people aren't married and public displays of affection beyond holding hands will certainly offend the older members of society.
Violent crime certainly is low(not sure what the punishments are so if they are harsh that may be the reason) but pickpocketing and aggressive begging are very commonplace.

That sounds a bit draconian .
Stupid rules are there to be challenged and no society is closed now due to mobile phones , computers and the internet .
So they see the rest of the world having fun and want to join in so they stretch the boundaries of their repressive society .

not sure I would give too much credibility to only what HMG say, they have a track record of saying to us what they want..
dodgy dossier ring any bells..?
not been there yet but when we do I wont go solely by the 'advice' of HMG..
a mixed bag of relevant travel forums and word of mouth and yes also see what the FCO say seems a better way..
