Our 16 day old grandson was born with a small cleft. Doesnt affect his lip or pallette. Wasnt picked up on scans.

Daughter got appt today for end of october to see specialist with him. In letter it says it is linked to heart problems. She is beside herself and has looked on the net and scared herself stupid.

Does anyone have experience of or with cleft or can give me a good site or group that may help with info please?

My mum had a cleft lip ? I remember her being worried sick when I was pregnant with my first. When he was born she saw him a couple mins after and ran her hand down his face saying perfect. 2 days later we found out he had a serious heart defect.

No help I know but off to google.

little house on the praire

My son was born with a submucous cleft pallette. It wasn't picked up until he was about 2. It never interfered with him aoartbfrom speech. He went to speech therapy for a few years, now he's an adult just talks like he's mumbling sometimes. But apparently the pallette fuses together by the time they are around seven

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Never never never look online for medical stuff! You end up thinking you've got Beri Beri and a club foot. Of course she is worried but the specialist will give her all options and know more about it than a generic search engine.

In a crisp poke on the A814

It has been connected to heart problems BUT it is a very small %.....

They are just covering everything, im sure she has nothing to worry about...
