has there been a few today....
I was looking for one and it seems to have disappeared...
I know I have calmed down in my postings and count to 10 before starting anything now... yey for "calm fabs!!"
but it is now getting to the stage when I see a contenious topics, I debate whether to post in them because I see them and wonder if it going to be worth posting because I can see it being nuked...
there is a difference between having strong opinions and putting them across and being a "firestarter" which I suspect that some people are getting a kick out of....
Am I the only person thinking this at the moment..... |

Steven and I place bets on how long some thread will last - I never get that right
But I do know where you comming from cos I have gone thru periods where I dont post - either cos I think its a private injoke (that I dont get) or I think why bother its only gonna be gone by the time I finish typing

Yeah Zoe write the word and Kitty will buy you 2 big macs and a KFC!!!
In all seriousness why should any of us not be able to say what we want to say (unless its just to rile someone), for instance I refuse to report unless I feel the comment was abusive and out of line
And Kittys fave word is just that a word I dont like it but its still a word nothing more nothing less!

No Fab, you're not alone!
Unfortunately some people are very opinionated and post their views several times on a thread at great length and jump on anyone with an opposing view with added insults no less!
The threads then quickly degenerate.
Some people think this is their personal play pen! |

I am not sure why you are worried Fabio, you are always careful with how you post and to be honest, most people are.
It is only when it gets too personal/out of hand that threads get stopped. There has only been one today that I know of, so it is hardly loads. |

Well that makes two of us. You see something that is potentially interesting but you know someone is going to hijack it just to have a pop at someone else and your interest diminishes. Always interesting to see someone else’s opinion on a subject but you can bet your lunch money that there will be some malevolent additions added by some. |

Sadly we don't have any spare body armour to loan you it's in demand by us prior to entering certain threads

I have not seen the threads in question, so I cannot comment about them.
However, lately, there had been a number of deliberate fire starters, some of which I found distasteful.
I just ignored them.
I have also started to recognise posters whose posts/threads I am unlikely to appreciate, and stay away from them, and concentrate on the ones that I am more likely to enjoy.
I have also noticed a number of regular posters have stayed away from the forums due to the recent unpleasantness, which is a real shame.
I always try to be as polite and pleasant in the forums. However, this pussy cat has claws, and they do come out from time to time when provoked!

I saw 2 thread today that got deleted.
1 was started by someone who wanted opinions - this happened and the OP ended up in a fight with other posters. Wasnt nice to read at all
The other was in direct reply to the removed thread and one of the fighters.
The first if people replied after thinking maybe it could have become a quite interesting thread but since one person gave a knee jerk reaction it opened the flood gates and all hell wouldnt have broken out - BUT sometimes (and I am just as guilty as other people in this) we can type first then hit post reply . . . . . . THEN think about what we wrote and then its too late other people have seen it and replied as they should (since its an open forum). and what happens?? people get personal and sometimes insult people without even meaning to.
Thats one of the reasons I try to stick to fun light threads so I dont get myself in a whole heap of trouble when I really dont want or need the hassle of that.
Sorry for going off at a tangent but my fingers ran off with me

I've posted on a couple of threads recently thinking that if allowed to develop it could get interesting only to return a few hours later to find the thread gone completely. I'm sure Admin let a thread run until it gets personal but a warning in the first instance should suffice to those concerned to tone it down a tad, and then if it continues then maybe a 24-hour cooling off ban might do the trick. But the thread would remain open. That's my view on it. |

and yet another thread has been closed because another "firestarter" decided to light the blue touch paper in what was otherwise an innocent thread..
so sad to see..... now i do tend to wait a few hours to see if a thread survives before i post in them....... |

Someone starts a thread to say goodbye
A few polite people say goodbye
Someone who will not miss the person leaving politely says dont hurry back
and all hell beaks loosee
Provided it stays polite, which it most certainly was then ignoring it as opposed to fanning the flames is the answer |

"Maybe as Wishy said, a time-out and a forum ban along the same line as the chatrooms? "
Maybe a yellow card ( warning) then a ban, sometimes everyone can get heated in the heat of the moment, one mistake then ban seems excessive.
Persistant offenders should get longer and longer bans, then permanent.
Just MHO of course.
PS I know the mods job is tough enough already,
PPS make me a mod, I'll ban all the other males, leave the sexy ladies JUST for meeeeeeeeee!!!!!
ohhhh wait, maybe not a good idea to make me a mod |

I know the chatroom mods can 'kick' ppl for an hour then it goes up in increments, I just thought that maybe an hours 'kick' would work here too and let antagonists cool down a bit. xxxx |

i really just wanted to say "just grow up"... in fact i was screaming it at the monitor!!! but again counted to 10.. and put it down and turned the other cheek..
I think the message has to get across that this is not acceptable somehow... maybe by talking about it in a measured fashion it will finally strike home.... |

You will always get people on the forums who fan the flames so to speak...... even on these threads they turn up.
Without going into anything, bans are never given out just for one comment.
But they are given out for persistant offenders.
As is always, please, if you are going to have a discussion please keep it general and do it without being personal to any one poster. |
