Tell him he full of shite and dont deserve to be in the job he in...
How sad is that eh..and typical of SOME of the teaching professions views these days.
Only because it negates their role. and makes life easier |

How fecking stupid. You have to be able to read and write before anything else obviously, without knowledge of good English/spelling/grammar we can't do anything else? Filling in form (on or off the PC), wrting a CV, reading absobloodlylutely everything (instuctions etc). How the feck can you use ITC well without being able to read and write as you say anyway. Sack the stupid sod! |

I have been fighting that losing battle for years with my eldest - spelling doesnt matter - says who?? Ever tried typing a CV without spell check?? cos todays kids are gonna be stuffed. I dont pretent to be able to spell but I have a rough idea what they word is so I can look it up in that little book we all got when at school but my kids thought was just for gathering dust on the book case . . . . dictonary. Now to my way of thinking if you dont know what the word is you are trying to spell you can (and will) misuse words and make whatever you have written unreadable.
My kids also dont get the handwriting jotters at school - remember them the jotters where you copied out a sentence over and over til you got the word perfect and your handwriting was easy to read. Last thing I had to read from my eldest (who is nearly 12) I handed it back to her and said rewrite it so I can read it, she said the teacher dont have a problem!!! my answer pretent Im actually your mother not some teacher who is fluent in gobbledegoop or preteen speak (aka shite with no vowels) 3 hours later I got handed something resembling what it should have been - and something I wouldnt have gotten away with aged 7 never mind 11!!!
Now she hands her homework to Dad cos he just signs it

I've never heard anything so stupid and this "teacher" is doing children a diservice!
Unless you're career choice is working the till in Asda you need to read and write. All my staff have excellent IT skills but as they also minute meetings, and our meetings are three days long, have to take witness statements, fill in forms for Employment Tribunals etc not being able to read or write would be a problem I think! |

mine hasnt got choice its got to get past me and if its not spelt correctly she sits back down and does it!
iv always made a point of spelling with her and even when she was smaller used to get her to spell words out. as much as IT skills are important, and she is fluent in laptop she fixed mine often enough she still needs good spelling and numeracy to compete in the job market when the time comes! we will hopefully be abroad when the time comes for her to start looking for work and the standard higher! xx |

If you think about it you can't really use a Pc if you can't read or write. I guess it the deputy head should have said reading and writing alone isn't enough in many carer choices. Might be best to get him to clarify what he was trying to say. |

I feel quite sorry for our kids cos many of the teachers have been beaten down to the point they no longer care about the standard of the work their pupils are doing.
I personally believe we should be producing the best generation cos the children now a days have the best of all worlds, they should have the best teachers, they have better computers than we ever had at school (remember BBC huge boxes that took a week to warm up and an hour to open the word document??), today the children have the best of everything but standards are dropping. Why??
Cos no one will accept responsability for anything.
In my kids school I brought something up that my daughter had told me and I was told she (and all her mates) were liars and "everything online is 100% safe, nothing can ever happen to the kids"!!!! I asked if the school was deliberatly lying to me and the pupils and I was told I was being abusive to the teacher?!?!?! What I meant was did the school get that info from someone else whom I could contact and get the information from and find the truth or was it something the school had decided to make parents feel like they had to allow this to happen. But nope I am now classed as an unwelcome person all cos I wanted what is best for my girls

It's not really possible to comment fairly on something taken from an unknown context and quoted in isolation.
I hope what he meant was made clear when you went to speak to him.
