Not sure this topic will ever be resolved on here tbh. Both sides of the argument have been well said but buy unbending people so it will just go on and on

After a period on benefits all claimants should be assessed for contribution purposes, this should include claimants for all benefits. Also why are there people out there getting more benefit than UK nationals and never contributed a penny? yet can get far more of a pay out than a contributor of long standing, another reason to get benefits in the UK is that English is spoken.

But going on from my threads a few weeks ago about this subject, looks like what I thought was a good idea is going to go ahead, not so silly now am i

also think about what the problem is. No jobs?. it seems like there are not enough jobs to get people off the job seekers line so they are making unpaid positions to force people into work. does this really solve the problem?? perhaps employers should stop thinking about what they can do with the money they are making from dodging billions in tax and acctually hire people, this does not include zero hour contract jobs

Im self employed so don't see the problem with zero hour contracts. If I can't get work then I don't get payed. Same thing really.

Introducing a minimum wage resulted in many thousands of people being added to the unemployed. Many small firms closed down and down sized, especially in agriculture and farming.

Everywhere and nowhere baby

I am currently unemployed. I am supposed to be available for work. How am I supposed to be available for paid work if I'm cleaning streets or wiping graffiti? Can't win. Looking for work is hard enough without having to tear myself away from the internet/job centre to do these things.

I would give my right arm for a job, however low paid. Catch 22 springs to mind.

that's very true. But do you honestly spend 8 hours a day looking. If so then I hope you find something soon. But if not then a few hours out of your day wouldn't hurt.. also your on fab at 5 which many would consider part of the working day!

Always looking on net. Get e/mails from various agencies. Job search uk is a daily search. Applied for lots of jobs, most I get no reply from. But still I keep looking. Have to have a break to keep my pecker up. Please don't judge me, it's disheartening enough without that. Applied for 5 jobs today, perhaps if you were in my shoes you'd think differently.

I am a bit confused about some of the comments on this and the previous thread....nowhere does it say that they would replace current employees (ie street cleaners) it actually says....

"To still qualify for jobseeker's allowance they will have three options - work placements, such as cleaning up litter; daily visits to a job centre; or taking part in compulsory training, for example, to improve their literacy.

People would have to remain on help-to-work until they found employment - unlike the current scheme which is limited to six months"

So it is not just about sending them all out to take over jobs and not be paid for it. My opinion is that "yes" they may get offered "shitty" jobs as a result of this but...tough! Can anyone really say that their first ever job was brilliant and what they wanted to do with their life?? Or is it more a case of learning to be disciplined enough to get up and work all day and learn skills along the way that then make you more employable at the end of it??

This is targeted to those that have been unemployed for 2-3 years and although there are definitely genuine people who have been unable to get work, it will out the lazy gits who have no intention of getting off their arses and doing anything!!

If they are over 25 they will be getting £71.70 per week JSA and all linked benefits (HB/CTB/Tax Credits) etc which can add up to a "minimum wage" amount anyway of someone working full-time, so why the hell not send them out to pay back something to the society that is funding them!!

Stands back, takes cover and .....runs to the hills!!

My OH pays for the 'site supporters' thing. He's expected to support me when my contributions based JSA runs out. Fair enough. But please don't tar me with the same brush as the "slackers" out there. I'm 52 and although there isn't supposed to be 'ageism' I'm sure there is. I'm doing everything in my power to get a job, however low paid.

Exactly, wake up and realise, unemployment benefit accounts for less than 6%??? Clearly sun newspaper readers lol

Why which hunt, or attack such a small proportion of spend from the public purse.

And before anyone starts the my taxes pay for rubbish.... I suggest that you research what your income tax actually pays for

Your council tax pays to run the country, that's why it's the only tax that you can be put in prison for not paying... Hmmm big clue there.

For one thing Your income tax is used to pay for interest on the money in circulation, I hate to break it to you but the Bank of England is a profit making concern. Google how much was paid in fines to the EU for not following all directives they pass (more than unemployment benefit)

So before you attack the unemployed, think.... Are they the reason for our problems??? Nope!!

You might want to get your facts right if you are going to quote Jobseekers' allowance is actually £4.91bn (7.6%) IF you take off the £16.94bn 5.2% housing benefit. You could add in DLA at £12.57bn (3.3%) or not depending on who and what but its still a huge drain on the system and stop reading the Sun its bad for you.

I really don't know the answer. I know there are genuine unemployed people who are genuinely looking for work. I also know that there are genuine lazy arse feckers like the young couple who live opposite me. I am sick to death seeing them coming home in taxis with their shopping, dressed in the latest fashions while some weeks (like this one) I've literally got £10 in my purse. Its so disheartening but I work for my own self respect, sanity and to instil a work ethic and set a good example to my child.

The same way that everyone who works for the state are - tax money pays for them and they are taxed on their wages the same as everyone else.

"And.............and ......

many benefits are taxed ........

so they are also taxpayers

What a stupid comment, yes the claim tax us paid but how the heck can you feel you have paid tax, if the money was giving to you.

The same way that everyone who works for the state are - tax money pays for them and they are taxed on their wages the same as everyone else."

Yes people working for the state do just that, WORK

People that claim benefits might well of paid income tax in the past but it's a false economy if you think you pay tax on hand outs. Yes tax is deducted, but that don't mean you have the right to say you pay taxes Lmao, thus place has me in fits some times

"kin....shitting meself here incase i gotta go tater picking on me crutches or be a traffic warden in me chair.......

The worlds a harsh place for all us scroungers....and all them pretending to be "workers" but spend all their time on here "

how we earners spend our time isn't for you to question you aren't paying for us. I'm self employed and often have hours in the day free. If I choose to spend them on fab that's my right . If someone supposed to be looking for a job does then I have a rightto complain as iI'm funding them. Same way if one of my employes was spendingg time I'm paying them for I would have a right to sack them if they were on fab while I was paying them

"I really don't know the answer.

"

OMG how der you think how people should spend there money on, it's there money not yours,

Them claimant pay taxes on it you no.

By the way was being flippant in case you think I'm having a pop

"Britians money problems have feck all to do with the unemployed.. Are people too stupid to see that.. Take back all second houses from all potiticians. Stop politicians from stealing from the public purse.. Stop the stupid fucking spending that councils do..ie..in Glasgow they have commisioned £250000 for fucking statues and new art..wow.. Stop paying over inflated wages to fucking failing bank bosses..stop buying banks out with public money.. Its 2013, slavery has been banned for hundreds of years and some arseholes would happily re-establish it under another name.. I recently just lost my job and to read so many negative right wingest _iews make me sick.. I hope the shit hits the fan for you guys the same way its hit so many other hard working folk who lost their jobs due to a fucking corrupt system.. "

and getting us outof the fecking EU will save us bloody billions too!,the EU is corrupt, wastefull and we dont need them.
