delivery scam

this was taken from facebook so not sure how true it is...

A scam doing the rounds. A delivery company calls and asks if you are going to be in as they have a parcel for you. Within the hour a driver appears with a basket of flowers and a bottle of wine, no idea who it's from but there is going to be a card to follow. He asks for £3.40 so he can prove the delivery has been made to an adult as there is alcohol in it. He can't take cash as the transaction has to be prove able so he produces a hand held card reader. You put your card in and type the PIN and get a receipt from the machine for £3.40. A couple of days later your account has been cleaned out. Clever and affective. Unless you know who it is from beware of unexpected deliveries. Pass it around folks the more who know the harder it is for the scum.

now...is it me or would you have to be very stupid to believe you have to pay to prove your age?

Until you have worked with the public, you don't know how stupid many are.

I wouldn't fall for that though.

That's like the Overseas relative "Billionaire" who has just died and there is $30 Mill just sat waiting to be transferred to me if I just give them my name, DOB and CC details, you know..just to prove I'm real.

Somewhere in North Norfolk

If someone brought a delivery for me and asked me to pay anything I'd tell them to sod off.

If I order something from overseas and there is a duty and handling charge then that's different but anything else, no chance.

Besides, only paying by credit card would prove age, not debit card. And not everyone has a credit card (I don't).

I can confirm this is a hoax. There was a similar incident about 5 years ago. This happened abroad and the offender was charged and convicted.
