If a profile is effectively a long and ranty list of do's and don'ts, does it put you right off?

There's some bloody great profiles on here (my own, most of all ) so it's no great loss to zoom past the ranty ones

I am put off by negativity in profiles. Nothing wrong with stating your dos and donts - but ranting about timewasters etc in a profile is a right turn off for me.

the problem is, you have to put ranty bits at the beginning because some dont get half way, let alone all the way, through a profile.

however, i agree, a profile that is merely a shopping list of do's and dont's with no thought of anything else is a little hard to read or stay interested in

Rants kill pleasure, it's fairly simple.

Also, it seems fairly pointless stating too much of the obvious, as it's potentially going to switch others off, as their mind and interest wanders.

Treat it like a great book - you need to entice people to want to read more, after they've read an over_iew (publishers blurb) and then the introduction: by this point, readers should know a fair amount about you and your interests. The rest adds detail, and sums you up and who you're looking for.

The photos are likely _iewed first, possibly the only thing that gets _iewed. With outstanding photos and then a great profile that really adds a lot, with each and every element, and you're putting yourself out there to good effect. If you have some unflattering pics, consider replacing them.

I imagine that 'ranty' or 'shouty' type profiles probably put off the very people those profiles hope to attract.

Attracting the types they're not after probably leads to more shouts and rants. Bit of a downward spiral.

Some people take this 'fun' a little too seriously.

I'm put off by rants for one reason they seem kind of like the person ranting is taking a small thing and blowing it up into a big thing .

As I believe life is to short to let the little things get to you I'm naturally put if by such things .

I often see ranty ladies' profiles. Guys' tend to be too short. "Message me if you're interested" doesn't really help me! However, only a few pithy lines are necessary. But I do like reading some anyway. Nosey see.

I received one of my daily abuse messages yesterday. It was particularly satisfying to see the opening line on the profile was a rant about how only intelligent people that can write properly etc. should contact them. Literally half the words were spelled incorrectly. Easy entertainment

This is the kind of thing I can't understand. I see little point in adding some new 'dont' every time you get a daft message. It won't stop the daft messages. Why get so worked up about what a stranger says.

I don't change ours, my OH has added a sentence about parties, otherwise it's the same since we joined 3 years ago. It's just a few paragraphs about what we are looking for and our likes.

Your profile needs to be about you rather than making comments about how awful other people are

People seem to think having a strict filter as to who you are looking for is ranting.

We have had long/short prefrences/no prefrences on our profile.it makes no difference.people don't read.

We even had "no meets, having a break" still got mesages.

Easier to just let anyone message then delete them.
