Read on bbc news site coalition hss pledged another 100 million quid on top of the amounts already sent.

Yes its very sad whats happening and i count my blessings but enough is enough on foreign aid.

Day after day we hear about cutbacks that impact on everyone especially the vulnerable and poorer folk in society.

Yes help others when we have money but when we do not then all efforts should be on helping the folk here.

Coalition are more interested in political posturing on world stage than its own people.

Time to change priorities in my view.

As said before when we have funds then help but when not then keep what we have to help our own.

No doubt the wishy washy do gooders will disagree but this is exactly why this is wrong.

For that sort of money you could buy a large, pink(ish) diamond.

It's all about values.

I was unaware that the UK Gov't bought large pinkish diamonds with taxpayers money. Isn't that the sort of thing 3rd world dictators buy with foreign aid from us?

Leeds.

They could sort out a lot of the troubles in the UK with money like that. But whenever it comes to problems "at home" they claim to be skint.

This just proves the Government do have the money they claim they don't have. They're just unwilling to spend it in the UK.

I think your wrong about forign aid and why we give it and should continue to do so. And there is nothing of the wishy washy do gooder in me.

The simple fact is that although our governments (that's all of them) claim altruistic motives for foreign aid there is none!

We give aid to the poorest and most unstable countries in the world for 4 reasons only. OUR SELF INTEREST.

1. We give money/arms to those we believe are sympathetic to us to keep them in power and in our sphere of influence.

2. We give money/arms to those who we believe will be sympathetic to us if they gain power and in our sphere of influence.

3. We supply money to buy weapons/weapons to the above so that they do their killing in there own land rather than here!

4. We give money/food to famine victims so that they stay where they are!

I know many people will be outraged by what I have said, either because of my cynicism or my total lack of empathy for those suffering in other parts of the world but please consider the consequences of the alternative suggested above.

The money we give keeps trouble from our shores.

So we can stop aid and withdraw from the world stage and sit here letting the fires burn out of control or worse yet letting others control how those fires burn and when they get here we can face the starving multitudes migrating north driven by battle hardened hoards that will overrun us!

Still think we should change our posturing on the world stage and our policies on foreign aid?

Finally for the record I'm ex mob and I know its better to get others to do the fighting for you if possible. But if not we need to fight on our enemies land rather than ours!

I know I'm a horrible man and should be ashamed of myself

Its a shame we can't all vote button wise where our tax money goes (Employed taxpayers only mind) you could choose how much you wanted to go to the old or to people in war zones or even how much towards unemployed layabouts then at least there would be less moaning.

"yea mate sick of it us brits r biggest mugs on the planet"

Maybe we're just making amends for the several hundred years of rape, pillage and slavery we've imposed on much of what we now call the Third World.

Without the money we 'acquired' during that time, Britain wouldn't be in a position to do much of anything at all.

So should we get money from the Saxon invaders (Germany,) The Romans (Italy) and the Normans (France)? They raped and pillaged this country many centuries ago didn't they? How long does this "guilt" go on for exactly? Personally I don't feel liable/responsible for anything my father, grandfather or any of my ancestors did or didn't do.You'll be punishing Fred West's children by your flawed logic.

By voting in a general election you're voting for a government who decide where your taxes go. How will we disenfranchise the unemployed layabouts yet make sure that the unemployed non layabouts still get a vote?

It amazes me how some peoples greed is so overwhelming that it leads to total ignorance and stupidity.

They ignore anything that undermines their beliefs, that is the definition of ignorance.

They fail to look at history objectively to see the results of the same or similar actions in the past and be guided by them, that is stupidity of the highest order!

Read a little about British history in Ireland and the voting system and civil rights movement in N Ireland. You propose a similar system here, are you ready to turn Mainland Briton into another NI to save yourself £4 a week to foreign countries and maybe the same again from the "unemployed layabouts"

I agree

Sick and tired of hearing about cuts cuts and cuts

Seeing front line services cut and even terminated due to money

Yet we always seem to be able to find money to help other countries

It amazes me !
