What qualifies as a couple?

Wolverhampton

Hi, i messaged a couple yesterday who's profile says only 'proper couples' who live together.

Now does this mean that in the swinging world myself (f) and my partner (m) are not a proper couple as we live in seperate homes? Not because we have significant others but because his mom is elderly *

& it means she can stay in her own home. I have a teenager and no 84 yr old wants to live with a 16 yr old, even if the house had a spare room.

To the outside world we are a couple, we go out, we have family birthday meals and sleep over at each other's homes. We just don't live together yet...

Does this disqualify us and are we resorted to fuck buddies because of it?

Just wondering on everyone's perceptions

"To me a couple are two people who live together"

Interests me that we need 4 walls surrounding us for that title...

The land of grey peas and bacon

You don't have to live together to be defined as a couple...

In chat room terms, a man and his penis.

You are just what you present yourselves as.

If you go out as a couple then thats what you are.

After all dont most people say that couples about to get married

"they make a lovely couple"

They may not live together before hand, but are still a couple.

I'd say if you send most of your time together - do the shopping, pick up the kids, know each others shoe size etc. you're a couple.

People make the distinction from 'fuck buddies' who we prefer to avoid too.

silly people! So a couple could live together but have no chemistry left and just going through the motions - are a proper couple?

Then again they could be missing out on the sexual chemistry between good quality fb's or couple who dont live together?

Their loss

in most terms it is those who live in a house together but in some cases not possible can not see why not still classed as couple for genuine reasons and those involved xx

I think they probably mean 2 people who are in a loving relationship, as opposed to fuck buddies who just play together.

If 2 people on here want to be together on fab, same profile but are both married to others, are they not classed as a couple?

To me it is a couple that are committed to each other and view the other person as being an integral part of their own future.

To us a couple is two people that are in a relationship with each other in the vanilla world as well as for swinging.

We don't meet fb's as have had a few bad experiences where the male fb is just using the fem to get more meets!

I'm not saying that all fems are that naive (before I get pounced on!) but generally their isn't that emotional connection and it's too 'mechanical' for us.

a couple to me is a loving relationship, not necessarily living together (i dont live with my OH)

2 people cheating on their partners is not a couple to me.

that being said i have nothing against fb's and would be open to meeting fb pairings

Exactly that, we were a vanilla couple for 15 months before we decided to explore this lifestyle. Our regular relationship is what matters & swinging would be left behind in a heartbeat if we thought it was taking over what we have outside of it.

A fb couple is not necessarily a loving relationship though.

If you think you're a proper couple, mail them. Only they will know what it means to them. There are many different variations of 'couples'.

we are very much a couplewho love each other very much we are'nt living together at the moment but are hopefully taking that step sometime soon, we have been together 2 years and do everything together, so classing a "proper couple" as people who live under the same roof is wrong in our eyes

I suppose when it comes down to it, if you think of yourselves as a couple, you're a couple and if others think differently and it costs you a meet - too bad.

So you would class yourself as a proper couple, in the situation you described. ..some people are weary of FB playing as a 'couple', and only want to meet a couple, this is their filtering, same as other people have selection filters.

As always on fab, if you don't like something on someones profile, you proably won't like the people from the profile.

Move onto another profile.

I agree with bexx!! I'm part of a " couple" for many years, I stay for many reasons I would like to think most of them are good unselfish reasons... but never in my mind are we a couple.

have said it in another thread.

the couple dynamic has changed over the years, and over the last 5 years, with the lack of work in local areas, the dynamic has been stretched to its limit, even moreso.

couples are living further and further apart, to have to chase work, amongst other things.

ourselves, we live in seperate countries.

V lives in ireland, and me here in the UK.

why?

well because i cant get any work over there.

she has kids at school so we WONT affect their education and bring them here, especially as the schooling systems are so different.

so for now, we have to live as we are.

but, and here is the crux of it all, to me/us, a couple are 2 people that are committed to each other, above all others.

lets not forget, 2 people could be lving together (as, in fact, friends of V's do) but they are no longer 'together' and see other people, its just convenient for neither of them to find somewhere else to live.

are they a 'proper' couple?

of course not.

4 walls makes no difference to someones relationship.

Two people that live together, don't live together, who cares, two people that play together are couple whether it be married, bf/gf or fb

oh, and we have lived like this for 3 years.

are totally in love with each other

in fact, smitten would be more accurate, almost to the point of embarrassment cuz neither of us will do anything without the other, which includes swinging, going out and so on.

we like an old married couple ( and i swear if she makes me take her to vegas to get married by elvis, she wont make it to old age lol)
