I climb, both indoors and outdoors. Also like hill walking, mountain biking, kayaking etc. Anything arduous amongst wilderness really.

Good subject for a thread

Used to indoor climb when dating a woman who was into climbing

Just one outdoor climbing experience with her put me off that side of it for life!

Idwal, Tennis Shoe (direct). Vivien Quarry Llanberis, comes the dervish. Gogarth, Near North Stack Holyhead Island, A Dream of White Horses. The Roaches, Sloth, The Valkyrie and Late Night Final. All classics and not too hard.

There are some female climbers!

I do mostly indoor climbing these days but Derbyshire was my playground at one point - some great climbs there.

Not much time for it these days - too busy on fab

Good fun, no major hiccups. experience of a lifetime, although now I'm planning to go back next year!

My training got me very lean beforehand, next year I probably won't get too lean as by the time we finished I slightly resembled an anorexic?! Lol

Started climbing down at Harrison's and bowles. Lived in Llandudno for a year or so, spent lots of time bouldering in parisellas cave, eager beaver and clever beaver were favourites. Proudest achievement in the peak is probably strapadictome at Burbage, but that was years ago now.

Coolest place I've climbed was probably under the cable car up Table Mountain, easy but dead Posey

Ever climbed in Matlock Bath? Some really thin stuff there! And Dove Holes in Dovedale is one of the best wet weather playgrounds ever!

I used to climb as a teen, but I must confess I haven't been in a while, probably 6 years.

Most of my indoor climbing I used to do in Brum at The Rock Face. Is that place still open?

Actually, does anyone know anywhere I/a small group (say 5) could go climbing in the Midlands? A variety if faces would be ideal, Indoor or outdoors, though I'd need an instructor/belayer as it's been years and I don't think I'm qualified, though I did used to do it.

Anyone help me out here?

God there's the difference! When I started climbing (late 60s early 70s) there was no indoor climbing (bar the wall in Liverpool Uni [over 1 end of the swimming pool]) and very few instructors. What you did was find a climber who would take you out or join a club where experienced climbers would teach you what they knew, as you became more proficient you would be trusted to "climb through" and lead your first pitch (will never forget my first pitch [2nd pitch on the Ordinary Route, Tryfan]). Then in your turn you would pass your skills on to other new climbers. Now it seems that you cant do anything without a piece of paper!

Hi. As a kid I climbed anything I could. As a teenager I got into rock climbing.

I used to climb regularly in Derbyshire until my mid 20s. Best was an E2 that I was dead proud of. Would probably struggle with a V Diff these days. ..

SPSA, Kayak and Canoe instructor, and local cave leader too!

Spent 5 years as a freelancer, gorge walking, coasteering, climbing etc.

My favouite climbs will always be the South Wales sea cliffs, but North Wales and Stanage Edge run them close. Best ever was an E3 lead on bolts.

Always wanted to go overseas and move onto mixed climbs and mountaineering, but that never panned out, although I did do a bit of winter stuff in North Wales, which led to some rather scary moments!
