This site has (by it's very nature) a lot of sexually liberated people, but it does sometimes amaze me how many people seem to be quite closed minded when it comes to sexual activities.
Examples being when people post a question asking about a sexual activity, normally at some point you'll get someone asking what it is or stating that it's gross/disgusting or they'd never do it.
So when you sit down and think about it, do you have a sexually open mind or do you know what you like and like what you know? |

I think I am mostly open, there are of course things that don't float my boat at all.....I do however have problems with Bareback sex. ...as there are huge potential consequences, but also accept that as consenting adults we all take risks to a certain extent. |

I'm not so open minded I guess, as I know what I like and rarely stray from that. I prefer my horizontal persuits to be of a basic nature.
That being said, just because I choose not to venture far sexually doesn't mean I am without knowledge, because to have the preferences I choose I have had to watch/try/read/google to make those choices.
Hope that made sense as my brain is fried! |

Being open minded does not mean that you have to like everything

to be a swinger you don't necessarily have to be sexually liberated, to be sexually liberated doesn't mean you are open minded. Therefore to be a swinger you don't have to be open-minded. |

No not really. I'm pretty open to giving things a go and tolerant (for want of a better word) that others get their kicks in different ways. But I'm pretty clear on what I find a turn on and what I find repulsive and there's a pretty big margin between the two. |

"Yes! Mine is magnificently open!
In fact, so open my brains fall out of mine!
"
You pinched my line!
But yeah I think I have an open mind as in I will accept what most are into or are by nature but that doesn't mean I want to try everything I come across. Inquisitive am I. |

I like to think I am.. and I know I'm much more liberated than I was before I got involved more in the social side. I still have things that are not for me. But I never feel the need to brand anything as disgusting as long as it is between consenting adults.
I may find things not to my taste.. (guys with guys for example.) But I just try not to put myself in a situation that would be an issue.. ie don't go to bi nights etc.. however I refuse to judge someone on their preferences or likes. I just accept that they are different from my likes.

I agree, however, at what point does that go from being open to closed minded?
For example, illegal activities (in this country) would be something most of us wouldn't do (although if no one did them they'd not need to legislate) but where do we draw the line?

For me the line is as long as it's sane and consensual and between adults. I won't even say legal because a few things I enjoy people can be charged with.. ie the bdsm side.. |

Is BDSM not an illegal activity still on the grounds that consenting to bodily injury is a misnomer under British Law? |

Anything that could be life threatening, cause last harm or marking that is not transitory is considered an assault. Consent is no defence against an assault. However case law has set that the law cannot ask a husband/wife to aid the prosecution of their partner so as long as no photos or witnesses married couples are OK. I think

Having only had one sexual partner, my husband, until the age of 45, where doggy was as risque as it got! To hooking men up by their knackers, rubbing wasabi around their ring piece before using a strap on...I think it's fair to say my mind is open! |

I believe there was a prosecution for this in the 80's and the defendants were prosecuted R V Brown (spanner case), however part of the issue may have been their homosexuality because in similar cases between heterosexuals the prosecution did not hold up. So technically a case of legality and open mindedness crossing paths perhaps? |

Exactly: I think that's what some people struggle with."
I don't mind people being disgusted, it's when they say something is wrong or sick. I think you can not like something without deciding it's sick etc. |

I would say I am in most respects; I will try things sexually before deciding what I do or don't like, I will listen to ideas and opinions outside my own ideas and opinions without preconceived judgement BUT being a man I do know when I am right
... and that is most of the time |

An open mind is one that can fully understand the concept of each to their own whilst at the same time holding a non judgemental opinion.
'I know people like scat but the idea of me actually partaking in it makes me feel sick' is an open minded attitude
'People who are into scat are disgusting' may be an honestly held opinion but is very close minded.
A truly open mind is one that can listen to and accept both of the above with good grace.

In that case I'll stick by my original response. No I'm not that open minded re. the original question - I prefer to make sensible judgements. |

I'm not going to answer that question preferring to let my past post in the forums on here speak for me on this topic .
I will say this though just because you choose now to do something yourself doesn't mean you disapprove of those who do partake in such endeavors
Each to there own just love that motto |

I thought I was till I joined fab and realised there was a lot I didn't know/hadn't heard of. I'd like to be a bit adventurous but whenever chat becomes a bit out of my comfort zone or someone wants to know what I like I retreat into my shell a bit. |

I kind of agree with that. But I don't see anything wrong with being closed minded.
I won't do everything but I will do a lot, not sure if that makes me open or closed minded. I might think some things are wrong or not nice so I wouldn't do them. But I don't look down on people that do like those things. As long as it's between consenting adults it's all good. |

Although I realise certain activities can give a lot of pleasure to some people, there are quite a few I would not entertain participating in.
I don't think anything less of folk whose interests differ from mine. Horses for courses |

The spectrum of responses shows the different interpretations of 'open-minded' people have
to me is it tolerance of the things I dont like and acceptance of what o do,
Although I do also sign into the ethos that those that do the things I don't like dont need or require my tolerance they do want me to bog off and leave them to it. |

I've been around people who have 'alternative' lifestyles for much of my adult life so feel I am fairly open minded. There are things which would make me choke on my cornflakes such as anything to do with animals. |

I think it's all relative. One person's vanilla is another person's extreme.

I agree as there's lots of things that just do nothing for me, so it's not about doing them it's about accepting that others might enjoy them if I don't.
For example
Cross dressing does absolutely nothing for me sexually and by that I mean it neither turns me on nor repulses me.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I know what I like and I like what I know.
That doesn't stop me being curious (in a non practical way) and I don't judge what others like to do, except bestiality. As long as it's consensual and between adults then that is fine. Give me the details until I have to stick my fingers in my ears and go la la la. |

I think perhaps the majority of us on here are open minded and if not open minded certainly curious of some of the things we read on here. I, for one, have become very much aware, since joining Fab, of many sexual activities I was not fully converse with.
None of us know everything and to enquire as to what something is or now it is performed is, I believe, quite natural. As many have indicated on this thread, and I often say in pm's I send, as long as it's safe and legal I will consider many things. |
